Game Preview - CSB Lacrosse faces Milwaukee School of Engineering Saturday before hosting UW-Eau Claire Monday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (4-5, 1-2 WIAC) has a busy schedule ahead with a both games on Sunday, April 13 and Monday, April 14. First, the Bennies have a road nonconference game with the Milwaukee School of Engineering (2-9) 1 p.m., Sunday at Viets Field in Milwaukee, Wis., before returning home to host UW-Eau Claire (6-4, 3-1 WIAC) at 5 p.m., on Monday, April 14 in WIAC action at the CSB Athletic Field.

CSB, which holds a 4-5 overall record and a 2-2 mark in WIAC play, notched its first-ever WIAC win in program history with a thrilling 12-11 victory over UW-La Crosse. Ava Mosley, who was named St. Cloud Orthopedic Athlete of the Week, netted four goals, including the game-tying goal with 3:17 remaining in the win on April 5 at home. Mosley also assisted on Sami Hackley's eighth career game-winning goal. However, the Bennies fell to Northern Michigan, 15-4, on April 6. In the most recent action, the Bennies set a program mark in goals scored in a 25-0 win over Augsburg on April 9. Earlier this season, the Bennies had a 17-4 victory over Edgewood College in Madison, Wis., on Feb. 23  and a 20-6 loss to No. 24 University of Chicago on March 9, where Mosley scored two goals. Hackley was a standout in the win over Edgewood on Feb. 23 with five goals. Hackley and Mosley contributed five goals each in a 23-4 victory over Hamline on March 12. Hackley's performance in that game marked her 100th career goal, making her the first player in CSB history to achieve this milestone. In a 13-7 road loss to UW-River Falls on March 26, both Hackley and Izzy Bohlman scored two goals. The Bennies also suffered losses to Chapman University (21-9) on March 29 and No. 19 Colorado College (17-4) on March 30.

Milwaukee School of Engineering Notes
MSOE, which is 2-9 this year, is directed by Terra Ringo, who is in her second year at CSB. The Raiders are scheduled to face Edgewood College on Friday, April 11 before hosting the Bennies. In the last four games MSOE has split the games, including a 19-10 win over Marian University. As a team, they have been outscored, 145-to-77 in goals, including 137-to-96 in shots on goal. They have 282 ground balls, 283 turnovers, 100 draws controls and a 77.1 clear percentage. Chloe Ninmann leads the team with 21 goals and 25 points while Lilly Johnson has 16 goals and 20 points. Molly Benjamins is 1-8 in goal with 57 saves.

UW-Eau Claire Notes
Led by head coach Michael Rhodovi, who is in his second season at UW-Eau Claire, the Blugolds sit 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the WIAC. The Blugolds have won three straight games including 17-12 over UW-River Falls, 27-2 against Augsburg and 23-3 over Hamline. This season, they have a 145-to-101 goals advantage with 150-to-123 margin in shots on goal. UW-Eau Claire has 71 assists and averaged 30.0 shots per game to 26.4 by opponents. In other statistics, they have a 249-to-185 margin in ground balls and 152-to-121 in draw controls. On clears, the Blugolds have a 79.5 conversion rate while opponents sit at 85.0 percent. Reegan Werner has a team-high 41 points, including 21 goals and 20 assists. The leading goal scorer is Ellie Fisher with 24 goals while Devon Crew has 18.   In goal, Alexandria Shea is 5-3 with 84 saves and an 11.0 goals against average.

CSB trails UW-Eau Claire, 1-0, in the all-time series. A year ago the BluGolds took an 18-13 decision on March 13, 2024 in Eau Claire, Wis.

CSB Player Highlights
  • Sami Hackley (Junior): Hackley has scored 20 goals and dished out nine assists (29 points), leading the team in both categories. With 110 career goals, she's the first player in CSB history to reach that level of goal scoring. Hackley has scored multiple goals in 17 of her last 20 games and has a career-high eight game-winning goals. She has eight games with five or more goals, including a program-record nine against Augsburg on April 12, 2024.
  • Ava Mosley (First Year): Mosley has scored 18 goals and added six assists for 24 points, ranking second on the team in both categories. She also has nine ground balls and five forced turnovers.
  • Hannah Kurowski (First Year): Kurowski has eight goals and six assists, accumulating 14 points.
  • Emma Nelson (Sophomore): Nelson has scored 10 goals and provided six assists, adding 23 draw controls and 10 forced turnovers.
  • Lizzie Schrubbe (Sophomore): Schrubbe has six goals, four assists, and 13 ground balls in 2025. Last season, she set a CSB program record with 50 assists and 12 points in a single game.
  • Izzy Bohlman (First Year): Bohlman has contributed 18 goals and one assist for 19 points, ranking third on the team. She has 17 ground balls, ranking third on the team in both categories.
  • Emma Osland (Senior): Osland has scored 50 career goals and has nine assists for 59 points. She has scored three goals this season.
  • Chloe Lewis (Goalkeeper): Lewis, who is 2-5 this season in net, has made 66 saves in six appearances this season, with a 12.63 goals against average. She holds a 22-12-0 career record with 358 career saves.
CSB Team Stats
Through nine games, CSB has scored 107 goals and registered 54 assists. The Bennies are averaging 28.8 shots per game and have totaled 181 ground balls, 109 forced turnovers, and 126 draw controls. The team has a 74.7 percent clear success rate while holding opponents to 66.3 percent. CSB has allowed 105 goals and 46 assists, with opponents averaging 24.9 shots per game.

Head Coach Patrick Crandall
In his third season at the helm, Patrick Crandall holds a 24-13 record and has led the Bennies to two Midwest Lacrosse Conference titles with an undefeated 12-0 conference record. This is CSB's first season in the WIAC under Crandall's leadership
