Game Preview - CSB Lacrosse faces road tests against Chapman and No. 19 Colorado College this weekend

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (2-2, 0-1 WIAC) is set for a pair of road tests in Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend. CSB will face Chapman University (2-5) in nonconference play 12 p.m., on Saturday, March 29. Then, the Bennies faces No. 19 Colorado College (7-2, 1-0 MIAC) in WIAC play at 12 p.m., on Sunday, March 30 with both games at Washburn Field.

Following a 2-1 record in nonconference play, the Bennies, which joined the WIAC as an affiliate member this season, kicked off a busy week with its first-ever match up in the WIAC, falling to UW-River Falls (7-2, 1-0 MIAC), 13-7, in River Falls, Wis.

CSB's season so far includes a win over Edgewood College (17-4) in Madison, Wis., and a loss to No. 24 University of Chicago (20-6). In the loss to the University of Chicago, first-year player Ava Mosley led the team with two goals. In their victory over Edgewood, Sami Hackley scored five goals. The Bennies also secured a 23-4 victory over Hamline, with Hackley and Mosley both contributing five goals each. Hackley's performance marked her 100th career goal, making her the first player in CSB's program history to reach this milestone. Against UW-River Falls, CSB's Hackley and Izzy Bohlman both scored two goals in the 13-7 road setback.

Colorado College (7-2, 1-0 WIAC)
Veteran head coach Susan Stuart, who has directed the Tigers to 7-2 start, including 1-0 in WIAC play, owns a career record of 320-153-1 record. The Tigers defeated Chapman University, 18-5, on Thursday, March 27 at their home field. They also recorded a win over No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer, 13-8 on March 20. Earlier, they lost to No. 24, Chicago, 10-9 on March 8 and won their WIAC opener, 15-5, over UW-Wisconsin Eau Claire. This season, the Tigers have outscored opponents, 123-to-76, and outshot foes, 29.0-to-27.0 per game. They own an 82.5 percent clear rate with opponents at 81.1 percent. In addition, they have the edge in draw controls, 123-to-104. Colorado College is led by Charlotte Iler with 27 goals and 11 assists while Peyton Murphy has scored 20 goals with 11 assists.

Chapman University (2-5)
Chapman is directed by second year head coach Delaney Benson, who has an 11-11 overall record. The Panthers, which lost to No. 19 Colorado College, 18-5, earned a 17-8 win over Whitman College and lost to Oberlin College, 11-10, at their home field of Holly & David Wilson Field in Orange, Calif., this past week. This season, opponents have a 91-to-86 goals edge while Chapman leads in shots per game, 28.7-to-27.3. In terms of clears, the Panthers have been successful on 66.7 percent with opponents at 66.4 percent. Chapman has lost the draw control battle, 109-to-88 but lead in ground balls, 149-to-131. Individually, Ella Seidel leads the team with 27 goals and 32 total points while Lyndsey Huss has 14 goals and 11 assists.

  • Sami Hackley (Junior): With 12 goals and six assists (18 points, team-high) this season, Hackley has surpassed 100 career goals, making her the first player in CSB history to do so. She has 102 goals and 24 assists for 126 career points. She has scored 124 career points, including 24 assists, and has scored multiple goals in 15 of her last 15 games, adding a program-best seven game-winning goals. Hackley has 25 multi-goal games in her career. She has twice scored five goals in a game this season. Eight times she has scored at least five goals in a game and has a career-best and school record nine vs Augsburg on April 12, 2024.
  • Ava Mosley (First Year): With nine goals and three assists for 12 points, Mosley ranks second on the team in scoring.
  • Hannah Kurowski (First Year): Kurowski has contributed five goals and four assists for nine points.
  • Emma Nelson (Sophomore): Nelson has four goals and four assists, along with 14 draw controls and eight forced turnovers. She has posted multi-goal performances in nine career games, including a four-goal outing against Edgewood this season.
  • Lizzie Schrubbe (Sophomore): Schrubbe has three goals, four assists, and eight ground balls in 2025. She set the CSB program record last season with 50 assists and 12 points in a game, and five times had five or more assists in a game.
  • Izzy Bohlman (First Year): Bohlman has seven goals and seven points, leading the team with 11 ground balls.
  • Emma Osland (Senior): Osland has scored 48 career goals with nine assists for 58 points. She has tallied two goals this season.
  • Chloe Lewis (Goalkeeper): Lewis has made 22 saves in three appearances this season and holds a 20-9-0 career record with 314 saves in over 1,860 minutes played.
St. Benedict – Inside the Numbers
CSB has scored 53 goals and registered 30 assists through four games. The Bennies, which averaged 33.3 shots per game, has accumulated 115 ground balls, caused 71 turnovers, and recorded 56 draw controls. Additionally, they have a clear success rate of 71.8% while defensively hold opponents to 60.9 percent. Opponents have totaled 41 goals, and 17 assists as well as 23.3 shots per game.

Now in his third season, Patrick Crandall has built a 22-10 record and led CSB to two Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) titles with a perfect 12-0 conference record. This year, Crandall leads CSB is its first year in the WIAC.
