Game Preview - CSB Lacrosse will face UW-River Falls on road in first-ever WIAC game

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (2-1, 0-0 WIAC) is set for its WIAC opener against UW-River Falls (6-2, 0-0 WIAC) on Wednesday, March 26, at 5 p.m. at Ramer Field in River Falls, Wis.

Following a 2-1 record in nonconference play, the Bennies, which joined the WIAC as an affiliate member this season, kick off a busy week with three scheduled games. After facing UW-River Falls, CSB will take on Chapman University at noon on March 29 and No. 19 Colorado College at noon on March 30, both games being played in Colorado Springs, Colo. This marks their second WIAC matchup of the season.

CSB's season so far includes a win over Edgewood College (17-4) in Madison, Wis., and a loss to No. 24 University of Chicago (20-6). In the loss to the University of Chicago, first-year player Ava Mosley led the team with two goals. In their victory over Edgewood, Sami Hackley scored five goals. The Bennies also secured a 23-4 victory over Hamline, with Hackley and Mosley both contributing five goals each. Hackley's performance marked her 100th career goal, making her the first player in CSB's program history to reach this milestone.

UW-River Falls Overview
Under the leadership of fourth-year head coach Talia Hayes, UW-River Falls is 6-2 this season, holding a strong 45-16 record since 2022. The Falcons have scored 114 goals with 55 assists across eight games, averaging 32.8 shots per game and successfully completing 81.8% of their clears. Key players for UW-River Falls include Samantha Hayek with 31 goals and 12 assists, Brooke Gluback with 22 goals and 21 assists, and Murphi Specht with 17 goals.

Series History
CSB trails the all-time series against UW-River Falls 2-0, including a 16-11 loss on April 29, 2024 at home. St. Ben's is 0-1 both at home and away, including a 16-5 home loss to the Falcons on the road on March 20, 2023. 

CSB Team Notes – Player Highlights
  • Sami Hackley (Junior): With 10 goals and six assists this season, Hackley has reached 100 career goals, making her the first player in CSB history to do so. She has 124 career points, including 24 assists, and has scored multiple goals in 14 of her last 15 games, adding a program-best seven game-winning goals. Hackley has 24 multi-goal games in her career.
  • Ava Mosley (First-Year): With eight goals and three assists for 11 points, Mosley ranks second on the team in scoring.
  • Hannah Kurowski (First-Year): Kurowski has contributed five goals and four assists for nine points.
  • Emma Nelson (Sophomore): Nelson has four goals and four assists, along with 13 draw controls and eight forced turnovers. She has posted multi-goal performances in nine career games, including a four-goal outing against Edgewood.
  • Lizzie Schrubbe (Sophomore): Schrubbe has three goals, four assists, and eight ground balls in 2025. She set the CSB program record last season with 50 assists and 12 points in a game, and five times had five or more assists in a game.
  • Izzy Bohlman (First-Year): Bohlman has five goals and five points, leading the team with 10 ground balls.
  • Emma Osland (Senior): Osland has scored 48 career goals with nine assists for 57 points.
  • Chloe Lewis (Goalkeeper): Lewis has made 15 saves in two appearances this season and holds a 20-8-0 career record with 307 saves in over 1,800 minutes played.
St. Benedict – Inside the Numbers
CSB has scored 46 goals and registered 26 assists through three games. The team has accumulated 89 ground balls, caused 57 turnovers, and recorded 47 draw controls. Additionally, they have a clear success rate of 71.2%.

Head Coach Patrick Crandall
Now in his third season, Patrick Crandall has built a 22-9 record and led CSB to two Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) titles with a perfect 12-0 conference record. This year, Crandall leads CSB is its first year in the WIAC.
