Game Preview - CSB Lacrosse Team set to host Hamline in home opener on Wednesday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (1-1) is set to play its home season opener against Hamline University (0-2) on Wednesday, Mar. 12, at 4:30 p.m. at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex.

After splitting a pair of road games, the Bennies, who joined the WIAC as an affiliate member this year following two regular season titles in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference, are looking to build on a win against Edgewood College (17-4) in Madison, Wis., and a loss to No. 24 University of Chicago (20-6). First-year player Ava Mosley led CSB in scoring with two goals in the loss to the nationally ranked University of Chicago, while Sami Hackley scored five goals in the victory over Edgewood.

Hamline University Overview:
Hamline is under the leadership of third-year head coach Adam Dobis, who holds a 13-22 record. Before joining Hamline, Dobis served as an assistant coach at the University of Indianapolis, where he helped lead the team to multiple NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championships and a GLVC Regular Season Championship. The Pipers are 0-2 this season after losses to Augustana (12-11) and Beloit (14-11). Last year, Hamline finished with a 9-9 record and a 2-3 mark in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference, but they have since joined the WIAC along with CSB and Augsburg. Offensively, Hamline is led by Reagan Zywicki (4 goals, 4 assists) and Lauren Moorhouse (6 goals), while Nicole Phillips has added five goals.

Series History:
The Bennies lead the all-time series 4-0, including a 19-9 win over Hamline in the MLC Tournament Semifinals on May 1, 2024. CSB is 2-0 at home in the series, with their first-ever matchup resulting in a 14-7 victory on April 10, 2023, in St. Paul, Minn.

CSB Team Notes – Player Highlights:
Junior attacker Sami Hackley, who has five goals and three assists this season, is on the verge of reaching 100 career goals. Hackley has a career total of 95 goals and 21 assists, making her the first player in CSB history to approach the 100-goal milestone. Sophomore midfielder Emma Nelson has tallied four goals, two assists, and leads the team with seven caused turnovers and nine draw controls. First-year players Hannah Kurowski and Ava Mosley each have three goals. Sophomore Lizzie Schrubbe has added a goal and three assists, bringing her career total to 31 goals and a program-best 53 assists. In goal, Chloe Lewis has 10 saves in one appearance this season and holds a career record of 19-8-0 with 302 saves over 1,740 minutes played.

Bennies - Inside the Numbers 
Through two games, the Bennies have scored 23 goals and recorded 13 assists. CSB has accumulated 53 ground balls, caused 44 turnovers, and registered 29 draw controls so far. The team is successful on 61.5% of its clears.

Head Coach Patrick Crandall:
In his third season as head coach, Patrick Crandall has built a record of 21-9 and led the Bennies to two MLC titles with an unblemished 12-0 conference record. Now at the helm of the team in the WIAC, Crandall continues to lead CSB lacrosse toward success
