CSB Tennis falls to St. Catherine, 6-3, in MIAC play

SARTELL, Minn. -- Junior Sophia Jonas and senior Jane Bodensteiner recorded wins in singles but the College of Saint Benedict tennis team (4-5, 2-1 MIAC) dropped a 6-3 MIAC decision to St. Catherine's University (7-3, 3-2 MIAC) at Sta-Fit on Saturday (April 6) afternoon.
 
With the loss, the Bennies had their record drop to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play for fifth place in the MIAC standings.  CSB will face Concordia-Moorhead on April 7 at Sta-fit in Sartell, Minn.
 
Against the Wildcats, Saint Benedict secured an 8-3 doubles win from the No. 2 team of senior Peyton Kopel and junior Greta Nesbit, who improved to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in MIAC play.  
 
At No. 1 doubles, juniors Ashley Tarrolly and Sophia Jonas lost a heart-breaker to SCU's Sofia Walker and Kelsey Dorr, 7-8 (2-7). With the setback, Tarrolly/Jonas move to 3-2 overall and 3-3 in conference play. At No. 3 doubles, senior Jane Bodensteiner and first-year Kate Perbix lost a closely contested match to Erica Wing and Erin Loterbauer, 6-8, as their record dropped to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the MIAC.  
 
In singles play, CSB won singles competition at No. 4 and No. 5 as Bodensteiner and Jonas picked up victories. At No. 4 singles, Bodensteiner who is 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC, earned a straight set, 6-4, 6-4 win over Loterbauer. At No. 5 singles, Jonas registered a straight set 6-4, 6-1 decision against Zink. With the victory, Jonas is now 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC.

In No. 1 singles Tarrolly (3-3, 1-2 MIAC) lost a 5-7, 4-6 decision to Dorr. Playing at No. 2 singles, senior Peyton Kopel dropped to 1-8 and 1-2 in league play this season after falling in straight sets, 1-6, 1-6,  to Walker.  Junior Greta Nesbit fell to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC at No. 3 singles when she lost 4-6, 2-6 to  Faith Simon. At No. 6 singles, first-year Ryanna Steinhaus (2-4, 1-2 MIAC) lost a 2-6, 5-7 decision to Lilliana Holmberg.
