SARTELL, Minn. – With five wins in singles and a sweep in doubles, the College of Saint Benedict tennis team (5-5, 3-1 MIAC) rolled to a 8-1 decision over Concordia-Moorhead (3-18, 0-8 MIAC) on Sunday (April 7) at Sta-Fit.
With the third win in four matches, Saint Benedict evened their record at 5-5 while improving to 3-1 in conference play for a tie for fourth place in the MIAC standings. Next up for the Bennies will be a match with the University of Sioux Falls at 4 p.m., on Friday at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville. Then, CSB will wrap up a four-match home stand by hosting St. Olaf College at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 13 at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville.
"It was a nice bounce win for the team," said CSB head coach
Jack Bowe. "We had a solid day all around with solid play at the net and on the baseline," he said.
Against the Cobbers, CSB rolled to three straight wins in doubles and then won 5-of-6 singles matches to earn the 8-1 win.
At No. 1 doubles, juniors
Ashley Tarrolly and
Sophia Jonas moved to 4-2 overall and 4-3 in conference play with an 8-4 win over Raquel Egge and Mary Skorich. At No. 2 doubles senior
Peyton Kopel and
Greta Nesbit moved to 6-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 in MIAC play after an 8-6 victory over Erin Borchard and Anna Hacker of Concordia. At No. 3 doubles, senior
Jane Bodensteiner and first-year
Kate Perbix recorded an 8-2 win over Lizzie Allan and Bell Hamre. As a result, Bodensteiner/Perbix improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the MIAC.
Tarrolly captured the No. 1 singles match by defeating Egge in straight sets by 6-0, 6-1. Tarrolly is now 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC.
Peyton Kopel improved to 2-8 overall and 2-2 in league play after a straight set 6-1, 6-4 decision against Skorich.
Nesbit also won by straight sets with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Erin Borchard. On the season, Nesbit is 5-5 overall with a 3-1 MIAC mark.
At No. 4 singles, Bodensteiner won her fourth straight match with her second singles win of the weekend. Bodensteiner, who is 6-4 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC, registered a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) decision over Hacker.
Jonas also won her second singles match of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Allan. Jonas is now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the MIAC.
At No. 6 singles, first-year
Ryanna Steinhaus (2-5, 1-3 MIAC) lost a 4-6, 4-6 decision to Skrade.
