CSB Tennis drops 6-3 decision to Bethel on Saturday

ROGERS, Minn.-- The College of Saint Benedict tennis team (7-7, 5-3 MIAC), which had a win in singles from Ashley Tarrolly and two victories in doubles, fell to No. 31 nationally-ranked Bethel University (16-1, 6-1 MIAC) by a score of 6-3 on Saturday (April 20) at the Rogers Tennis Center.

Saint Benedict fell to 5-3 in conference play which places them in fourth place in the MIAC. Overall, CSB is 7-7 with a conference match against Gustavus Adolphus (April 21) on Senior Day set for 1 p.m., at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville, Minn.

One of CSB's highlights was at No. 1 singles where junior Ashley Tarrolly earned a straight set with at 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 decision against Lauryn Douglas. With the win, Tarrolly is now 7-4 overall, including 5-3 in the MIAC. 

CSB had a pair of wins in doubles. At No. 2 doubles, CSB's Peyton Kopel and Greta Nesbit moved to 10-4 overall and a perfect 8-0 in MIAC play after an 8-5 victory over Julia Baber and Emma Thole. At No. 3 doubles, senior Jane Bodensteiner and first-year Kate Perbix cruised to a 8-4 win over Bryna Eigenfeld and Courtney Nuest. As a result, Bodensteiner/Perbix improved to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the MIAC.

In the other doubles match, juniors Ashley Tarrolly and Sophia Jonas fell to 7-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play with a 3-8 loss to Lauryn Douglas and Michaella Sullivan of Bethel.

In the other singles, CSB had a couple of close calls at No. 2 and No. 3. Playing at No. 2 singles, Kopel fell to 4-10 overall and 4-4 in league play, after losing a heart-breaking tie-breaker to Sullivan by scores of 6-4, 4-6, 0-1 (8-10). At No. 3 singles, Nesbit also dropped a tiebreaker. She lost a 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 0-1 (8-10) decision to Baber, Nesbit is now 6-8 overall and 4-4 in the MIAC.
 
Senior Jane Bodensteiner dropped to 7-7 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC after losing in straight sets to Thole, 1-6, 0-6.
 
At No. 5, Jonas dropped a 4-6, 3-6 decision to Nuest. As a result, Jonas is now 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC.
 
Playing at No. 6 singles, first-year Ryanna Steinhaus had a three-match winning streak end in 1-6, 0-6 decision to BU's Malia McKinnon. Steinhaus is now 5-6 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC.
