ST. JOSEPH, Minn.—The College of Saint Benedict tennis team (6-6, 4-2 MIAC) has a busy week ahead with three MIAC matches against Saint Mary's (9-8, 2-6 MIAC), and Bethel (14-1, 4-1 MIAC) on the road before returning home for a Senior Day match up with Gustavus Adolphus (10-9, 4-0 MIAC) on Sunday, April 21 at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville, Minn.
Saint Benedict will travel to Winona, Minn., on Friday April 19, to take on the Cardinals at 2 p.m. at the Saint Mary's Athletic Complex. Following the match against SMU, Saint Benedict will face another road test against Bethel on April 20, at 2 p.m., inside Rogers Tennis Center in Rogers, Minn. The Senior Day match with Gustavus Adolphus at 1 p.m., on Sunday. On Senior Day, CSB will recognize seniors

Peyton Kopel for their achievements and commitment to the program.
Saint Benedict is 6-6 overall and, at 4-2 in the MIAC, sits tied for fourth place with Macalester. The Bennies have conference wins over Hamline; 9-0, St. Scholastica; 6-3, Concordia-Moorhead; 8-1 and St. Olaf College; 7-2. CSB took losses against St. Catherine University, 6-3 on April 6; and Macalester College, 5-4 on April 14. The Bennies went 2-3 on the spring break trip after opening the season with a 6-1 loss to NCAA DII SCSU in the opener. During the spring break trip, CSB defeated both Allegheny College and Ursinus College by scores of 8-1.

Throughout the two-day invitational, she defeated Dorothy Dean in two sets (6-1, 6-1) of Loras College (IA). Kate Perbix also won a pair of matches Midwest Invite Consolation Class B singles. She defeated Bella Tranquilino of Simpson, 8-2, and Hailey Toole of UW-Eau Claire, 8-0, before falling to Ashley Adkisson of UW-Whitewater, 8-2.In doubles play, CSB was led by Tarrolly and
Sophia Jonas who were ranked No. 16th, the pair lost their second round match to No. 7 Sofia Sacket and Natalia Smith of Luther, 8-6.

In the all-time series, the Bennies hold a 25-5 lead. CSB defeated the Cardinals in the last matchup, 8-1, on March 19, 2023. Saint Benedict, which won 15 straight matches from April 21, 1979, to March 18, 2007, owns a 14-3 home record against the Cardinals and stand 10-2 in road games with a 22-5 conference mark. CSB has won three of the five meetings against Saint Mary's since April 22, 2018. In the first matchup between the two schools, CSB won by a 9-0 decision on April 21, 1979.
About the Royals
Bethel is directed by Drew Fernelius, who is in his 12th season. Bethel boasts a 14-1 overall record with a 4-1 MIAC record, falling by a 9-0 to No. 39 Carleton on April 6. The Royals are led by Julia Baber at No. 1 singles (12-3) and Lauren Douglas (13-2) at No. 2. In doubles play, the pair of Douglas and Baber are 6-1 competing at No. 1 doubles.

CSB leads the all-time series 22-10, but lost, 5-4, in the last matchup on April 26, 2023. Saint Benedict, which won 12 straight matches from March 21, 2003, to April 2, 2012, owns a 10-4 home record against the Royals and carry a 10-5 record on the road with a 19-9 conference mark. Bethel has won four of the last five matches with CSB taking a 5-4 decision on April 22, 2023. In the first matchup, Saint Benedict won by an 8-1 decision on April 29, 1983.

Gustavus Adolphus is directed by Jon Carlson, who is in his 34
th season at the helm of the Gusties tennis program. GAC is led by Kaya De Bruijn who has a 13-9 singles record. In doubles play, Molly Austin and Allison Szalay post an overall mark of 14-10.

Gustavus leads the overall series, 33-0. Most recently, the Gusties defeated the Bennies 8-1 on April 16, 2023, in Saint Peter, Minn. In the first ever match, Gustavus defeated Saint Benedict, 9-0, on March 14, 1983.
Season/Career Player Notes
Ashley Tarrolly of St. Cloud, Minn., who is 5-4, including 3-3 in the MIAC, at No. 1 singles and 6-3 (5-1 in the MIAC) at No. 1 doubles this season, was All-MIAC and named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators a year ago. She was regionally ranked No. 6 in singles in NCAA DIII Region VII. Until a loss in the playoffs, she had eight straight victories, finishing 9-3 overall with a 7-2 mark in league play. Tarrolly, an economics major, had six straight set wins and was 3-1 in a tiebreaker. In doubles, she was 7-6 overall with a 4-5 record in league play, including 6-6 with Kopel. Tarrolly has a 21-9 record in her career in singles.
Peyton Kopel is 3-9 (3-3 in the MIAC) in singles this year with an 0-3 mark at No. 1 and 3-6 at No. 2. She is 8-4 overall and 7-2 at No. 2 doubles with junior
Greta Nesbit. In 2022-23, Kopel was named to the All-MIAC doubles team after putting together a 7-10 record, including 2-3 at No. 1 and 5-6 at No. 2 singles. In doubles, she was 6-6 overall with a 4-5 record with Tarrolly at No. 1. In her career, she is now 28-33 in singles with a 26-29 doubles record.
Greta Nesbit, a junior mathematics major from Le Sueur, Minn., has a 5-7 singles mark, including 4-5 at No. 3. Nesbit, who is 3-3 in the MIAC in singles, has an 8-4 doubles mark, including 6-0 in the MIAC, with Kopel at No. 2. A year ago, she had a 9-8 overall record, including 7-3 in MIAC play as she earned All-MIAC. In 2022-23, she was 2-3 at No. 2 singles with a 7-5 mark at No. 3. In her career she is now 24-19 in singles and 22-16 in doubles.
Jane Bodensteiner, an accounting major from Palatine, Ill., is 6-6, including 4-2 in MIAC play, in singles this season, playing at No. 3 and No. 4. In doubles, she is 8-3, playing at all three spots at various times. She was 10-6 a year ago, including 6-4 in the MIAC. She was 7-5 at No. 4 singles and finished the year with a 5-5 mark. In doubles, Bodensteiner finished 12-3 with a 7-2 mark in league play, including 8-1 at No. 3 and 4-2 and No. 2. Overall, in her career, she has a 31-24 record in singles. In doubles she has a 35-19 overall mark. In singles in her career, she is 22-15 in the MIAC and is 19-14 in the MIAC in doubles.
Sophia Jonas is 6-4, including 5-2 in MIAC play, at No. 5 singles and 6-2, including 5-1 in the MIAC, at No. 1 doubles this season. She is 16-17 in singles and 19-18 in doubles in her two years at CSB.
