CSB Tennis rolls past Allegheny College, 8-1

ORLANDO, Fla. – Led by five wins in singles and a sweep in doubles, the College of Saint Benedict tennis team (2-2) recorded an 8-1 nonconference win over Allegheny College (10-4) on Monday, March 4 at the USTA National Campus.

In the Bennies' first match ever with Allegheny College, CSB improved to 2-2 on the season with the victory. Saint Benedict will be back on the court on Wednesday, March 6 when they face Cedarville University at Oak Street Park in Kissimmee, Fla., at 10 a.m. (EST).

"We had a solid day as we opened our spring break competition," said second-year head coach Jack Bowe. "I liked our energy and focus."

Leading the way for CSB was junior Ashley Tarrolly, who captured her third No. 1 singles win of the season in four matches after a straight set, 6-0, 6-0 win over Emiliia Grydnieva. CSB also won at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

At No. 3, junior Greta Nesbit is now 2-2 on the season after a 6-2, 6-3 decision against Maria Lounder. At No. 4 singles, senior Jane Bodensteiner earned a 2-6, 7-6 (11-9) and 1-0 (10-8) decision over Rei Etsumi. She is now 2-2 on the season.

At No. 5, junior Sophia Jonas moved to 2-0 after a straight set win of 6-1, 6-1 against Allison Riley. Then, sophomore Brooke Beier took a straight set win of 6-1, 6-2 over Sydney O'Connell at No. 6 singles and improved to 2-2 on the season. At No. 2 singles, Peyton Kopel dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Jean-Arlette Legrand

At No. 1 doubles, Tarrolly/Jonas improved to 2-1 on the season after an 8-2 win over Grydnieva/Sabrina Rodriguez. With an 8-4 win at No. 2, Kopel/Nesbit improved to 2-2 at No. 2 doubles with the victory over Omega Ba/Maria Lounder. Then, Bodensteiner paired with first-year Kate Perbix for an 8-4 win over Allison Riley/Sydney O'Connell at No. 3 doubles.
