ORLANDO, Fla.-- The College of Saint Benedict tennis team (2-3) fell to NCAA Division II Cedarville University (9-4), 7-0, in nonconference play on Wednesday, March 6 at the USTA National Campus.
CSB, currently has a 1-2 record on the Spring Break trip after defeating Allegheny College, 8-1, on Mar. 4. Saint Benedict, which will be back on the court on Thursday, March 7 when they face Wheaton College (Ill.) at Oak Street Park in Kissimmee, Fla., at 12 p.m. (EST)
At No. 1 doubles, junior
Peyton Kopel and
Greta Nesbit fell in straight sets to Diana Ivanikhina and Abby Totten, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, CSB had a 6-3 win as senior
Jane Bodensteiner and junior
Sophia Jonas earned the win over Calista Bobula and Faith Monson. CSB lost the doubles point when first-year players
Ryanna Steinhaus and
Kate Perbix dropped a 6-1 decision to Delia Guzic and Susannah Price.
In singles play, the Bennies were swept by the Stingers. At No. 1 singles, senior
Peyton Kopel (1-3) lost in straight sets of 6-2, 6-2 to Diana Ivanikhina of Cedarville. Playing at No. 2,
Greta Nesbit dropped to 2-3 on the season with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Abby Totten. At No. 3 singles, Bodensteiner dropped to 2-3 on the year after a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Delia Guzic. Jonas, who is now 2-1 in singles play, dropped the No. 4 singles match to Bobula, 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore
Brooke Beier fell to 2-3 on the season after a closely-contested setback at No. 5 singles to Susannah Price by scores of 6-1, 5-7, 1-0, (10-8). At No. 6,
Ryanna Steinhaus fell to 0-2 on the season as she also dropped a close match with Monson by scores of 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).
