ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Junior forward
Ava Stinnett scored two goals to lead the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (9-11-2, 5-8-2 MIAC) to a second consecutive win with a 5-0 shutout over St. Olaf (9-13-0, 3-12-0 MIAC) in MIAC action on Friday (Feb. 9) at Ritsche Arena.
For the sixth time this season, the Bennies recorded five goals in a game and also recorded a school record sixth shutout this season. CSB, which improved to 5-8-2 for seventh in the MIAC with 17 conference points, is 9-11-2 overall. CSB and St. Olaf will play again on Saturday with a 4 p.m., start in Northfield, Minn.
Six times this season, Saint Benedict has scored five goals or more, all victories. CSB has a high of eight goals this season in the 8-0 win over Dubuque on Dec. 8. In the history of the program, CSB has five goals or more 93 times, resulting in 88 wins against just five losses or ties. CSB has registered five goals or more six times since doing it six times in 2014-15.
The Bennies opened up a 2-0 lead after one period, added two more goals in the second period and tallied a third score in the final stanza in recording the 20
th win over St. Olaf in 49 meetings all-time. Stinnett had two goals to lead the way while senior forward
Corrine Brown and junior forward
Aurora Opsahl both had a pair of assists.
"It was another great game from everyone. We had a ton of energy on the bench and in the locker room, which continued to the ice," said CSB head coach
Lindsay Macy. "The passion, energy and discipline the team have been brining lately is definitely helped our great outcomes in games," she added.
Senior defender
Abby Nelson opened the scoring with her first career goal at 6:44 of the first period on an even-strength tally. Assisting on the play was sophomore forward

At 17:16 of the first period, junior forward
Emma Rooks gave CSB a 2-0 lead after recording her ninth goal of the season and 19
th of her career. Assisting on the even-strength score was junior defender
Jenna Timm with her eighth of the season and 29
th of her career. Then, Stinnett took her in the second period with her 11
th and 12
th goals of the season as she has tied Opsahl for the team lead.
Stinnett, who now has 24 career goals, pushed CSB's advantage to 3-0 with an even-strength goal at 9:17 of the second period. Brown had the first of her two assists on the night as she now has 30 in her career. She also assisted on Stinnett's second goal at 15:49 of the second period. Also assisting on the even-strength goal was Opsahl with her fourth of the year.
In the final seconds of the game, Brown also tallied an even-strength goal for her third of season and 14
th of her career. Opsahl had her second assist on CSB's fifth goal of the night.
Junior goalie
Kate Moffat continued to shine in goal for the Bennies as she had her third career shutout and improved to 6-8-2 on the season. Moffatt, who had 27 saves, dropped her goals against average to .265 and save percentage to .922. She also tied CSB's season record with her third shutout, tying
Ally Frantzick, 2022-23; Jenna Traut, 2012-13; Kate Hall, 2000-01; Kristen Blumberg, 1999-00; and Mary Welle, 1997-98.
Opsahl now leads CSB with 17 points while Brown and Stinnett, who both had four points on the night, have 15. Brown's 30 career assists rank eighth in school history while Timm's 29 is tied for ninth all-time with Annika Brodt, 2018-22; and Brigette Miller, 2014-18.
