ROCHESTER, Minn. – Sophomore
Mary Morris and junior
Rachel Schlueter led an impressive performance by the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team at the Rochester Invite, which concluded on Saturday, Dec. 7. CSB placed eighth with 387 points among both NCAA DII and DIII teams at the Rochester Invite.
The Bennies finished with six program top 10 marks, including three by Morris and two by Schlueter, who were also part of a relay squad with yet another in the program top 10.
At the competition, CSB compiled numerous season-bests, career-marks and all-time program top 10 results.
Morris had an impressive performance at the Rochester Invite, including three top 10 program marks in CSB history. She placed fourth in the 200 back with a clocking of 2:06.57, a mark that is fourth in CSB school history, The sophomore standout also recorded the fifth best 200 freestyle swim in school history by bettering her previous best by over three seconds with a clocking of 1:56.37 and a seventh place finish among a field of swimmers from DII and DIII schools. Morris also had the eighth-best 100 back clocking in program history of 59.31. She was 16
th in the competition.
Schlueter placed fifth all-time in program history in the 100 back by going 59.12. She placed 14
th in the race. The junior standout had another program top 10 mark by going 1:04.11 in the 100 IM and placed 23
rd. She also had season-career best in the 100 butterfly with a 1:01.92 clocking. In addition, she was 18
th in the 100 free in 54.48.
The CSB 400 medley relay squad finished 19
th with a 4:03.17 clocking, a mark surpassing the previous best mark this year by 11 seconds and a result that ranks 10
th all-time in CSB program history. The relay squad included Morris, Schlueter, sophomore
Claire Canfield, and sophomore
Megan Bartels.
In the 400 IM, sophomore
Claire Canfield had a career-best of 4:45.79. She also had a season-career best of 2:14.65 in the 200 IM. In the 200 backstroke, Canfield had a personal-best of 2:11.29 and placed 12
th while
Lauren Sitzman was 23
rd in 2:13.01.
The 200 freestyle relay of Morris,
Grace Morphew,
Rachel Schlueter and
Jayda Alholm had a season-best in 1:42.09 and placed 25
th.
The 200 medley relay, which included Canfield,
Megan Bartels, Schlueter and Morris had a season-best of 1:51.18, which was just out of CSB all-time top-10. In the 800-freestyle relay, which included junior
Lauren Sitzman, first-year
Alivia Kortuem, Canfield and Morris, which finished a season-best 20
th in 8:10.52.
Three CSB swimmers carded season-bests in the 500 free including first year
Alivia Kortuem at 5:45.59 (28
th), junior
Morgan Stout, 5:48.95; and first year
Autumn Larson in 5:49.66.
Morphew was 30
th in the 50-freestyle in a season-best 26.43.
Megan Bartels also had a personal-best in the 200 breasts with a clocking of 2:33.81.
The 400 free relay of Schlueter, Canfield, Morphew and Morris placed 18
th in 3:42.82.
After competing at the Rochester Invite, the Bennies will go on its annual training trip to Puerto Rico on Jan. 4-11. Then, they will compete against DII St. Cloud State in Collegeville, Minn., on Jan. 18.
