CSB Hockey falls to Bethel, 2-0, in MIAC play

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (5-3-2, 3-1-1 MIAC) dropped a 2-0 decision to Bethel (4-2-1, 3-2-0 MIAC) in MIAC play on Friday (Dec. 6) at Ritsche Arena.

With the setback, the Bennies droppedd to 5-3-2 and 3-1-1 in the MIAC. Bethel is 4-2-1 overall with a 3-2-0 league mark as both teams are tied for fourth in the league with nine hockey points. CSB and Bethel will play again on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. in St. Paul.

Bethel scored a goal in both the first and second period to gain the 2-0 advantage and neither team put up a goal in the third period as defenses held tough.

At 4:41 of the opening period, Abbie Delong opened the scoring on an even strength goal at 4:41 of the opening period. Kallie Abrahamson (third assist of the season) and Sydney Eckert had assists on the play. At 6:44 of the second period, the Royals pushed the lead to 2-0 on an even strength goal from Brynn Swenson with assists from Eckert (third of the season) and Emily Wiltse (third of the season).

CSB held a 46-to-24 shots edge over the Royals but couldn't find the back of the net. Bethel goaltender Anna Hanson had 46 saves, including 20 in the third period as she did not allow a goal in 60 minutes. CSB's goalie Kate Moffat was also effective in the net, allowing just two goals in 56:15 with 22 saves.

CSB was led in shots by Emma Rooks with eight while Jenna Timm had six  and Presley Kraemer, five. CSB held the face-off advantage with 36 wins in 61 attempts. Shauna Miller won 12-of-18 face-offs for 66.7 percent while Chloe Lewis was successful on 10-of-14 face-offs for 71.4 percent.
