CSB Hockey draws with St. Olaf but earns shootout points on Tuccitto's score

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – First-year players Camryn Hargreaves and Peyton LeMieur scored goals as the College of Saint Benedict hockey team remained unbeaten in MIAC play with a 2-2 overtime draw with St. Olaf (2-5-1, 0-3-1 MIAC) at Ritsche Arena on Saturday night (Nov. 23).

After a scoreless overtime, Ella Tuccitto had a shootout score to give CSB two points in the league hockey standings. As a result, the Bennies now sit 3-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 for third in the MIAC. CSB is now unbeaten in its last four games, including three wins and a tie. Next for St. Benedict is a pair of home games against Northland College in nonconference play on Nov. 26-27 at Ritsche Arena.

In the opening period, CSB opened the scoring at 8:10 on a goal by Hargreaves, who was assisted on the even strength goal by Jorja Jusczak, also a first year.  Nora McConnell tied the game at 11:58 on an unassisted goal in the second period.

LeMieur scored her second goal of the season to give St. Ben's a 2-1 lead over St. Olaf through two periods. Sami Boerboom and Brooklyn Johnson assisted on the even strength goal.

After pulling its goalies and going with six skaters in the final minute, St. Olaf drew even as McConnell scored her second goal of the night and third goal of the season with 19.45 seconds to play for the tie. Rachel Wieland assisted on the play.

In overtime, CSB had three shots, and the Oles recorded two, but neither team scored to force the game to a shootout. After each team failed to convert on sixth shootout attempts, Tuccitto came through and the Bennies earned the shootout decision.

Reigning MIAC goalie of the week, Kate Moffatt of St. Ben's had another outstanding effort in goal. She allowed just two goals in 65 minutes while recording 18 saves.

In total, St. Ben's had a 23-to-20 shots edge over the Oles. St. Olaf won the faceoff battle, 30-21, For CSB, Mia Lopez won 8-of-14 faceoffs and Shaune Miller was six of 11 attempts.
