CSB Soccer will host St. Scholastica in home regular season finale

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- The College of Saint Benedict soccer team (4-5-6, 1-5-2 MIAC) will close the home regular season schedule by hosting St. Scholastica (0-12-4, 0-7-1 MIAC) in MIAC play at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex on Tuesday, October 22 at 3:30 p.m. 

The Bennies sit 1-5-2 and St. Scholastica is 0-7-1 in MIAC play as the teams prepare to face each other Tuesday.  In games decided by a goal or less, CSB is 3-4-4 (click here for schedule/results).
 
A group of seniors for CSB will play its final home game tomorrow. Those senionrs include: No. 0 Annie Waters, Lakeville, Minn.; No. 9 Ellie Wohnoutka, Rosemount, Minn.; No. 10 Alli Voss, Edina, Minn.;  No. 11 Olivia Miller, Eagan, Minn.; No. 14 Emma Young, Lakeville, Minn.; No. 15 Emily Cavanaugh, Edina, Minn.; No. 20 Natalie Parnell, Mendota Heights, Minn.; No. 21 Sydney Burns, Eagan, Minn.; and student manager Melissa Honnold, Waconia, Minn.

The Bennies started the season strong, winning three of their first five games, four of which were played at home. CSB has recorded ties in four games, including league games with Macalester (0-0) and Hamline (0-0). At home, the Bennies recently defeated Gustavus (1-0) in a close MIAC matchup. On Oct. 16, CSB dropped a close 2-1 decision in MIAC play to Concordia. Alli Voss scored her seventh goal of the season. Then, CSB suffered a closely contested 1-0 loss to Bethel on Senior Day on Oct. 19 at the CSB OAC.

Quick look at St. Scholastica
St. Scholastica, which is led by 25th-year head coach Dave Reyelts, is currently 0-12-1, including 0-7-1 in MIAC play. The Saints average 0.44 goals per game while allowing 2.94 per contest. They average 7.9 shots per game and opponents record 25.9 on average. Kaitlyn Sautter is the team's leading scorer with three goals this season while Julia Lewis has a team-best three assists.
 
Series Notes
This will be the sixth meeting between the two schools. The Bennies have a 5-0-0 record against the Saints all-time, including 3-0-0 at home. In the last matchup on Oct. 19, 2023, the Bennies defeated the Royals, 4-1, in Duluth, Minn. In the win, CSB had goals from current players Regan Melz (first of her career) and Grace Fitzgibbons. In the first-ever matchup, CSB recorded 10-0 victory on Oct. 19, 1991. The Bennies have scored 20 goals in the five wins and allowed four.
 
Inside Scoop – St. Benedict
The Bennies are averaging 0.86 goals per game while conceding 1.1 goals per game. CSB ranks eighth in the MIAC with 3.82 corner kicks (55 total); third in save percentage at .837 and eighth in shots on goal at 6.69. 

Senior forward Alli Voss leads the team with seven goals and three assists. She has three game-winning goals which places fourth in the MIAC. In 69 games, including 63 starts, Voss, who has logged 4,397 minutes, has recorded 27 goals and 11 assists for 65 points. She has 12 game winning goals with 175 shots including 96 on-goal. This year, Voss had her first-ever hat trick with the three goals in a win over Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Sept. 7, 2024.

Sophomore Avery Soli has contributed four goals this season and has five in her career.

In goal, senior Annie Waters has a goals-against average of 0.97 with 72 saves and a 0.857 save percentage which ranks her third in the MIAC. She has four shutouts this year and 10 in her career. In her career, Waters, who has started 44 games in 59 total, has logged 3,716:21 minutes, including 1111.50 this year. She has allowed 12 goals this year and 36 in her career for a career mark of 0.87 goals allowed average. She has 201 saves in her career for an .848 saves percentage. She has recorded career highs of eight saves against Wisconsin-LaCrosse, 9/1/23; Carleton, 10/28/23; and Gustavus Adolphus, 10/12/24.

In her career, senior Olivia Miller has three goals, made 37 shots, including 16 on-goal, and registered a game-winning kick during 61 starts.

Another senior, Sydney Burns has six goals and seven assists in her career.

Historical Performance
CSB has a rich history, recording 27 winning seasons since 1984. Last season, the team finished tied for third in the MIAC with a 6-3-2 conference record and an overall mark of 9-6-3. Consistently competitive, CSB has finished in the MIAC's top four for the past four seasons, including second-place finishes in 2021 and 2022.

Kimble leads CSB
Head coach Steve Kimble, now in his 16th season at CSB, has achieved 10 top-four finishes in the MIAC, with a career record of 153-88-35 at the college and 96-49-16 in conference play. Under his guidance, the team has experienced consistent success, including two MIAC championships and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances.
