On Youth Night, CSB Volleyball set to face Macalester Friday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (5-9, 2-1 MIAC) is set to host a home MIAC matchup against Macalester (9-9, 1-2) at Claire Lynch Hall on October at 7 p.m.

St. Ben's game with Macalester will be Youth Night with youth admitted free with a paid parent/adult.

CSB (5-9, 2-1 MIAC) has two straight wins in MIAC play placing them third in the MIAC. The Bennies recorded a 3-1 win over St. Scholastica (8-9. 1-2 MIAC) last weekend in Duluth. Meanwhile, Macalester (9-9, 1-2) took on Gustavus (10-9, 3-0 MIAC) who are undefeated in the MIAC on Oct. 5 where the faced a tough 0-3 loss.
 
Macalester Notes
Macalester, under the guidance of head coach Mary Johnston, who is in her fourth season with the Scots, is currently 9-9 overall and 1-2 in league play.The Scots are currently seventh overall in the MIAC with averaging 16.56 digs per set while also being ranked fifth for averaging 1.60 blocks per set. Macalester is led by senior, Adisa Preston, who has 172 kills and 146 digs on the season so far. Senior setter, Nicole Norton, provides 356 assists and 150 digs.
 
Series Notes
CSB leads the all time series against Macalester, 35-5, having recently defeated them 3-0 on Oct. 11, 2023. Historically, CSB has a 13-2 record at Claire Lynch Hall and 27-3 in conference play. In addition, the Bennies have won 10 straight matchups between the schools.
 
CSB Season Review
As a team, CSB ranks second in the MIAC and 77th in DIII  with blocks per game at 1.77 and sit fourth in the league with 101 total blocks. In kills per set, the Bennies rank fourth in the MIAC at 12.37 while sitting fifth in hitting percentage at .162.
 
On Oct. 5, CSB took a 3-1 win over St. Scholastica on the road as McKenna Moehrle and Kali Jones registered 12 kills. On Sept. 27 in Minneapolis, CSB dropped a 3-1 decision to Augsburg in the road MIAC opener. St. Benedict bounced back on Sept. 28 with a 3-0 MIAC win over St. Catherine in the home conference opener as Brooke Andries had 12 kills and Audrey Spolidoro recorded her 47th career double double. Prior to that, the Bennies participated in the Wartburg Invite, securing a 3-2 victory over Coe College but also facing tough losses against Simpson (3-2) and Wartburg (3-1). Earlier in the season at the Trinity Fall Classic, CSB had a notable 3-2 win over (RV) SUNY Cortland, although they suffered close losses to Texas Lutheran (3-2) and No. 15 Trinity (3-1), along with a 3-0 defeat against 17th-ranked East Texas Baptist. The Bennies finished 1-2 at the Falcon Invite, winning against Minnesota-Morris but falling to Simpson and UW-River Falls. On September 11, they lost 3-0 to (RV) UW-Eau Claire.

Saint Benedict is led by St. Cloud Orthopedics/CSB Athlete of the Week sophomore, Kali Jones, who has recorded 178 kills on the season with 163 digs, and 20 serve aces. The sophomore outside hitter from Annandale, Minn., recorded 12 kills (3.0/set) and contributed 11 digs in the 3-1 win (25-21, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19) over St. Scholastica on the road.  Jones had a stellar performance both offensively and defensively, achieving her eighth double-double of the season and the 14th of her career. She matched CSB sophomore middle blocker McKenna Moehrle with a team-high 12 kills, hitting .270 on 37 attacks. In addition, she recorded 11 digs and two blocks in an impressive all-around display. This season, Jones leads the team with 178 kills (3.12/set), achieving double-digit kills in multiple matches. She has a hitting percentage of .129 on 565 attacks, along with 13 service aces, 163 digs, and 17 blocks, totaling 206.5 points. Over her career, she has amassed 417 kills (2.76/set), 43 service aces, 378 digs (2.5/set), 42 total blocks, and 482 points.

Senior setter Audrey Spolidoro, leads the team in assists with 559 which is second in the MIAC and 39th in DIII. She has recorded 47 career double doubles, including 11 in 2024. Spolidoro, who sits second in the MIAC and 27th in DIII, averaged 9.81 assists/set. was named MIAC Specialist of the Week twice in 2024 while also earning selection to the All-Falcon Tourney Invite and the All-Wartburg Invite tourney teams. She recently surpassed 3,000 career assists. Against St. Scholastica, senior setter Audrey Spolidoro orchestrated the offense with 32 assists, nine digs, and three kills. During the win, she surpassed 3,000 career assists, reaching a total of 3,024 and is now just 29 assists shy of passing Megan Pekarek (3,052 assists, 2015-17) for sixth on CSB's all-time list.  Sophomore McKenna Moehrle had an impressive performance against St. Scholastica, which included 12 kills on 25 attacks with only four errors, along with three total blocks, including one solo. This game marked her eighth match this season with double-digit kills. 

Junior Mackenzie Knofczynski is third in the MIAC with 53 blocks and her 0.93 blocks/set ranks first in the league.
