ST. PAUL, Minn. – In a closely contested match, the College of Saint Benedict (8-4), which had singles wins from 
Ashley Tarrolly and 
Maria Bedford, dropped a 4-3 decision to NCAA DII St. Cloud State (10-4) on Wednesday (April 5) at Sta-Fit.
The loss by the Bennies ended its four-match winning streak as CSB has five wins in its last seven matches.  
 
"This was a great match," said CSB head coach Jack Bowe, whose team will face Macalester on April 15 at CSB. "We competed hard but just came up a little short. I was proud of our effort," he said.
The Bennies won two-of-three matches to win the doubles points but lost four of the six singles matches.
Senior 
Maria Bedford picked up her 12
th straight win in a tiebreaker. She is now 12-0 on the season and 7-0 at No. 6 singles. Today, she recorded a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) decision over Maria Molitor. With 12 straight wins, Bedford has the most consecutive victories since Megan Tiegs won 15 straight at No. 1 singles in 2005-06 in a 22-2 overall season. However, Bedford's winning streak opened the season and Tiegs occurred midway through that campaign 17 years ago.
Sophomore Ashley 
Tarrolly is now 5-2 overall with a fourth straight win at No. 1 singles. She had a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Oriana Grott of SCSU.
At No. 2 singles, 
Peyton Kopel is 6-6 on the season after falling 6-2, 6-2 to Maria Paz Aoki. At No. 3 singles, sophomore 
Greta Nesbit had a six-match winning streak end in a three set match up, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. She is now 8-4 on the season
At No. 4, sophomore 
Sophia Jonas is now 1-2 after losing to Arisa Kashima, 6-3, 6-4.   Senior 
Anne Bowe dropped to 5-5 on the season when Johana Brower had a 6-3, 6-1 decision.
CSB's No. 1 doubles team of 
Tarrolly/
Kopel rolled to an 6-3 win over Brower/Munoz Perez as they improved to 5-2 on the season. At No. 2, Jonas/Bowe fell by a 6-1 score to Grott/Paz Aoki. Then, CSB had a win at No. 3 doubles as Nesbit/Bedford defeated Olivia Fredrickson and Maria Molitor.
