MENOMONIE, Wis. – With a career-best five goals from sophomore
Emma Osland, the College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (6-1) recorded its sixth consecutive win with a 16-7 nonconference win over Wisconsin-Stout (0-10) on Saturday, April 15.
After opening the season with a 16-5 setback at UW-River Falls, the Bennies have been dominant with six straight victories. Since game one, the Bennies have outscored opponents, 96-to-41. CSB, which leads the MWLC with a 3-0 record, have averaged 16 goals and allowed 6.8.
"The team had another good win on the road today. We had some players step up and take some minutes. Senior
Maria Klein had a great day in only her second game on defense," said CSB Head Coach Patrick Crandall, whose team travels to face Northwestern (Minn.) on Wednesday (April 19) at 7 p.m. "The offense had a lot of shots on net and the UW-Stout goalie played very well today. We were able to fight through a tough shooting performance with consistent pressure," he said.
Osland became the second Bennies player (
Grace Fitzgibbons) to register five goals in a game in the program's first season. As a result, Osland has 14 goals on the season and 16 points. She has scored at least two goals in five of CSB's seven games and now is fifth on the team in scoring with 16 points.
Fitzgibbons had her fourth hat trick or better this season with three goals as she now has 19 goals and 23 points on the season. Like Osland, Fitzgibbons has had five games of multi-goals. Also today,
Shauna Miller had two goals and now has nine on the season. With two goals at UW-Stout,
Sami Hackley has 17 on the season and leads CSB with 24 points. She has had multi-goals in all six games she has played. Also scoring two goals was
Ella Steinke who has 15 on the season. CSB had a goal from
Presley Kraemer, who has two goals this season, and by
Emma Schrepfer, who tallied her 12
th goal.
On defense, goalie
Chloe Lewis was solid with nine saves and seven goals allowed. She has allowed seven or fewer goals in five of CSB's seven games this year. Today, CSB had a dominant 52-to-28 shots advantage while controlling ground balls to a 35-to-20 margin. In addition, the Bennies had just 16 turnovers to 27 for UW-Stout and was successful on 17-of-21 clears.

The Bennies jumped to a 5-1 lead after one quarter and with a 4-2 second quarter edge, led, 9-3 at halftime. CSB also had a 4-3 margin in the third quarter and a 3-1 advantage in the final quarter for the 16-7 win. In five of the last six games, the Bennies have held opponents to one goal or fewer in thee fourth quarter, which has aided in the winning streak.
Scoring Summary –
Shauna Miller scored the first of two goals on the day and opening the scoring at 13:49 of the first quarter. After a goal from Halle Weinman of UW-Stout (12:08), the Bennies had four straight goals for a 5-1 lead.
Osland began her best day of the season with a goal off an assist by Steinke at 8:11 for a 2-1 lead. Then, at 2:23, Steinke gave CSB a 3-1 lead. S. Hackley followed with another tally 18 seconds later followed by Osland's second goal at 1:51.
Trailing 5-1 in the second quarter, UW-Stout had anunassisted goal from Ally Crymble. But Osland had the answer at 10:57 with an unassisted goal for her first-career hat trick. After a Weinman goal, CSB scored the final three of the first half. Off an assist by Schrepfer, Steinke pushed the lead to 7-3 at the 6:55 mark. S. Hackley's goal at 4:16 and Miller's tally with 13 seconds left pushed the lead to 9-3 at the break.
Osland opened the third quarter with an unassisted goal at 14:49 for a 10-3 lead. At 14:20 of the third quarter, Fitzgibbons scored her first of three goals on an unassisted tally. After two goals from UW-Stout, Presley Kramer used an assist from Schrepfer for a 12-5 lead at 7:32. After UW-Stout tallied another goal, CSB scored four straight goals, including Fitzgibbons' second of the day at 1:05 of the third quarter. Osland had her fifth goal at 9:47 which was followed by another from Fitzgibbons at 8:18. When Schrepfer tallied a score at 6:54, CSB had a 16-6 lead and the matter was decided.
