ST. PAUL, Minn. – With a sweep of doubles and singles, the College of Saint Benedict (8-3, 5-1 MIAC) recorded its fourth straight win and fifth in six matches with a 9-0 win over Hamline (4-11, 0-6 MIAC) in MIAC play on Saturday (April 1) in MIAC action.
With the victory, CSB has won three straight MIAC matches and own a 5-1 league record as the Bennies moved up to fourth in the conference. CSB, which is 8-3 overall, have earned wins in 25 of the past 27 games (either singles or doubles) in league play.
"We had another nice team effort," said head coach Jack Bowe. "We had consistent tennis throughout the lineup," added Bowe, whose team will face NCAA DII St. Cloud State at 4 p.m., on Wednesday, April 5 at Sta-Fit in Sartell.
Senior
Maria Bedford picked up her 11
th straight win and again in straight set style. She is now 11-0 on the season and to 6-0 in MIAC play as well as 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Today, she recorded a 6-0, 6-3 win over Hamline's Christine Muller.
Junior
Jane Bodensteiner, who was named the CSB Athlete of the Week on Monday, moved to 10-1 overall and 6-0 in the MIAC with her sixth straight victory at No. 4 singles. She had a 7-5, 6-1 decision over Chloe Reyes.
At No. 3 singles, sophomore
Greta Nesbit improved to 8-3 overall and 6-0 in the MIAC after a straight set win of 6-1, 6-2 win over Lynn Nguyen.
Sophomore
Ashley Tarrolly is now 4-2 overall and 3-2 in league play after a straight set win of 6-1, 6-2 against Ashley Pitzen of Hamline at No. 1 singles. Tarrolly now has three straight wins.
At No. 2 singles junior
Peyton Kopel improved to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in league play after a 6-2, 6-3 decision against Jenna Rubbelke.
Senior
Anne Bowe also had a straight set win 6-3, 6-3 over Natalie Randall of Hamline. With the victory at No. 5 singles, Bowe pushed her record to 5-4 overall with a 4-0 mark in the MIAC.
CSB's No. 1 doubles team of Tarrolly/Kopel rolled to an 8-2 decision over Pitzen/Nguyen. With the win Tarrolly/Kopel improved to 4-2 on the year and 3-2 in league play.
At No. 3 doubles, Bodensteiner/Bedford continued to win, moving to 9-1 after an 8-2 victory over Reyes/Randall. In league play, they are now 5-0.
The No. 2 doubles team of Bowe/Jonas registered an 8-3 decision over Hubbard/Muller. With the win, the team is 2-2 overall and 1-2 in MIAC play.
Notes - Through 11 matches, the Bennies sit 48-18 overall in singles play and have a 30-6 mark in conference play. CSB is 11-0 at No. 5; 9-2 at both No. 4 and No. 6 and 7-4 at No. 3 with a 6-5 mark at both No. 1 and No. 2. In doubles, CSB is 24-9 and owns a 13-5 mark in league play. At No. 3 doubles, the Bennies sit 10-1 with a 7-4 record at both No. 1 and No. 2.
