SARTELL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict (6-3) rolled to its third win in four matches with a 9-0 nonconference decision over Northwestern, Minn. (5-7) on Tuesday night (March 21) at Sta-Fit.
With the victory, CSB has won two straight and six of nine matches in 2023. Against Northwestern, the Bennies, which improved to 3-1 at home, swept both doubles and singles.
"It was another solid effort for this team," said interim head coach Jack Bowe. "I was really pleased with their ability to control the match from doubles through singles. We had five straight set wins in singles and showed solid net play in taking the doubles," added Bowe, whose team plays at Concordia (Minn.) on March 25 as the Bennies return to MIAC play where they stand 3-1.
Senior
Maria Bedford continued to shine as she took a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles over Analise Marguardt. It was her ninth straight set win as she is 9-0 overall and is 4-0 at No. 6 singles.
CSB also picked up a win from junior
Jane Bodensteiner, who won her fourth straight match and moved to 8-1 on the season with a 6-0 mark at No. 4 singles. She recorded a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 victory against Taylor Smith.
At No. 3 singles, sophomore
Greta Nesbit improved to 6-3 overall as she defeated Domiano Baideme, 6-4, 6-1. Nesbit is now 5-0 at No. 3.
Sophomore
Ashley Tarrolly had a straight set 6-3, 6-1 decision against Annie Orvis for a second straight win, Tarrolly is now 3-2 on the season.
Junior
Peyton Kopel moved her season record to 5-4 after winning in straight sets over Abby Johnson, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
Senior
Anne Bowe defeated Elisa Jarchow, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 5 singles as she recorded the only victory by tiebreaker. Bowe is now 3-4 on the season and 2-0 at No. 5 singles.
CSB's No. 1 doubles team of

Kopel rolled to an 8-4 decision over Orvis/Johnson. With the win,
Tarrolly/
Kopel improved to 3-2 overall.
At No. 2 doubles,
Sophia Jonas and
Anne Bowe registered an 8-3 win over Jarchow/Smith. It is the first win for Jonas and Bowe in doubles this season.
CSB had another doubles win from the team of Bodensteiner/Bedford after an 8-2 win over Baideme/Marquardt at No. 3 doubles. It was the fourth straight win for Bodensteiner/Bedford who moved to 7-1 on the season.
Notes - Through nine matches, the Bennies sit 37-17 overall in singles play and have a 19-5 mark in conference play. CSB is 9-0 at No. 5; 7-2 at both No. 4 and No. 6. In doubles, CSB is 18-9 and owns a 7-5 mark in league play. At No. 3 doubles, the Bennies sit 8-1.
