LAKE ELMO, Minn. – With three student-athletes in the top-21, including senior
Emily Renner in eighth place, the College of Saint Benedict golf team finished fifth for the fifth straight year as the MIAC Championships concluded Monday (Oct. 9) at the Royal Golf Course.
CSB carded a team total of 141-over par, 1,005 (328-341-336) in placing in the top-five at the MIAC Championship for the 33
rd time in school history. The Bennies finished with rounds of 328 on day one and 341 in the second round before concluding at 336 and moving from sixth after 36 holes to fifth as the 54-hole championship concluded.
"I am very pleased that we finished on a high note today by moving up a spot," said
Daryl Schomer, CSB head golf coach, whose team concluded the fall with the league's fourth best round average at 326.5. "The team displayed tremendous mental toughness in some very difficult conditions. The season was fall of multiple personal bests. It was a joy to see the hard work pay off for this team this fall," he said.
For the third time in her career, Renner finished in the top-10 individually at the MIAC Championships with a 26-over par, 242 (78-82-82), which placed her eighth. As one of the MIAC's lowest 10 individual scorers (including ties) at the tournament, Renner earned All-Championship Team honors. Each of these 10 student-athletes will automatically earn 2023-24 All-MIAC honors when postseason awards are announced in May.
Renner, who will earn her fourth straight All-MIAC honor this coming spring, carded her 14
th top-10 finish in her career. She concluded the fall season with the sixth-best individual scoring average in the league at 77.1. In the final round, Renner had a 10-over par round of 82 (43-39) as she had 10 pars and a birdie on the 141-yard, par 3, 16
th hole. She finished with 22 pars and six birdies across the 54-holes on the par 72, 5,703-yard Royal Golf Course.
"It was great to see Emily (Renner) finished off a tremendous fall by locking up her fourth All-MIAC honor. She is a special player and one of the best-ever at CSB," Schomer said.
St. Catherine, which was led by individual runner-up Kyra Venne with a 12-over par 228 (78-79-71), won the team title with a 66-over par, 930 (307-312-311). Carleton finished second at 93-over par, 957 (330-313-314) as Carter Sichol was the individual medalist. Sichol carded an 11-over par 227 (75-78-74). Also in the team race, Bethel was third at 113-over par, 977 (320-327-330) with Macalester in fourth at 137-over par, 1,001 (326, 335-340) and Saint Benedict, fifth.
In her first MIAC tourney, CSB sophomore
Maggie Roth recorded a top-20 finish individually by placing in a tie for 16
th with a 31-over par, 247 (77-88-82). Roth concluded the tourney with a round of 10-over par, 82 (43-39). In the final round, Roth had 10 pars to go with a birdie on the 137-yard, par 3, 12
th hole. In total, Roth, who had a career-best 77 in the opening round, had 28 pars and three birdies.
Sophomore
Jamie Bimberg moved up in the overall individual rankings to a tie for 21st overall as she had an 81 in the final round and finished at 39-over par, 255 (89-85-81). Bimberg, who improved her score by four shots in each of the last two rounds, closed with a nine-over par, 81 (41-40). Bimberg, who had a birdie on the 256-yard, par 4, third hole, had nine more pars today. As a result, she finished with 19 pars and two birdies during the three rounds of the tourney.
Sophomore
Catherine Jance concluded her first MIAC Tourney with a three-round total of 45-over par, 261 (84-86-91) as she placed 30th. In the final round, she had a 19-over par, 91 (43-48). She had four pars today and finished with 18 pars and three birdies.
Junior
Georgia Hinton finished 42nd after closing the tournament with a round of 23-over par, 95 (46-49) as she carded a 68-over par, 284 (95-94-95) across the 54 holes. On Monday, she had four more pars, which gave her 13 pars and a birdie in the tourney.
