ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team got back on track Saturday afternoon with a MIAC sweep of Macalester. CSB beat the Scots 9-0 in St. Paul.
"We played great tennis (Saturday) and really stepped up at every position," CSB head coach
Michael Engdahl said. "It was a big win for our program, and every player earned it with the work they put in."
Saint Benedict (8-4, 4-1) hung on to win some tight matches in doubles play to take a 3-0 lead over Macalester (4-8, 1-4) heading into singles play.
Peyton Kopel and
Lily Fredericks held on for an 8-7 win at No. 1 doubles, and
Jane Bodensteiner and
Sophia Jonas came through with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.
Maria Bedford and
Greta Nesbit rounded out doubles play with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Fredericks won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and Kopel hung on for a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Nesbit picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, and Bodensteiner won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Jonas won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and
Grace Lee wrapped up the day with a 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Bennies are back in action Sunday, April 3, when they host Carleton at 10:30 a.m. at Sta-Fit in Sartell.
