CSB basketball returns home to take on Gusties Wednesday

Live Stats/Video

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team will take on Gustavus this Wednesday night in Claire Lynch Hall, looking to continue the momentum after their road win over the Oles. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Per MIAC policy, fans must be masked in the gym at all times. Per Saint Benedict campus policy, fans are being asked to sit in family pods with just the group they came with and to distance themselves from other groups. Fans exhibiting COVID-like symptoms or generally feeling unwell are asked to please stay home and watch the livestream of the game here. Concessions will not be available and fans must be masked on campus at all times.

About the Gusties

The Gusties are 8-2 overall, 6-3 in conference play after having to forfeit their last two games due to COVID testing protocols. Their last game was Jan. 5 against Saint Mary's, which they won 81-49. Emma Kniefel leads the Gusties in scoring, with an average of 12.3 points per game.

Last Meeting

The last time the Bennies and the Gusties met was in St. Peter on Feb. 21, 2021. A cold-shooting second and third quarters for the Bennies haunted them as their big 33-point fourth quarter wouldn't be enough to catch the Gusties and they would fall 76-66 at the final buzzer. Kate Seyer and Madison Doran scored double-digit points for CSB in the loss.

The Storyline

The Bennies look to keep the momentum and find a more consistent scoring rhythm after a good conference win over St. Olaf. Saint Benedict improves to 8-3 overall, 5-4 in conference with the win on Monday. They are sitting in fifth in the conference standings, just behind Gustavus and Bethel who are tied for third. The Bennies will be back home again on Saturday, Jan. 15 when they host Augsburg at 1 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall.

Who to Watch

Sophia Jonas had a career-high 23-points in the teams win against St. Olaf on Monday night. Tori Szathmary also had a season-high 12 rebounds against St. Olaf. Szathmary continues to average a team-best 7.5 rebounds per game.
