HASTINGS, Minn. – After two rounds of play at the 2020-21 MIAC Championships, two members of the College of Saint Benedict golf team are in the top 10 heading into Sunday's third and final round.
Senior
Bridget Amundson and first year
Emily Renner are tied for 10
th after two days of competition with identical 157s. Amundson dropped three spots after the second day and Renner moved up two spots from her first-round finish.
As a team, the Bennies dropped on spot and sit in sixth out of eight teams with 17 holes left to play. CSB took one stroke off its first round score and finished the second day with a 321 for a two-round total of 644. Saint Benedict is a single stroke behind fifth-place St. Thomas, which shot a 318 Saturday for a two-round total of 642.
St. Kate's held the team lead and pushed its lead to 12 strokes Saturday after carding a 306 for a two-round total of 611. Bethel is second with a 623, Carleton is third with a 624 and Gustavus is fourth with a 629.
After starting her round Friday with a birdie on the first hole, Renner did the same Saturday, She also birded No. 5 and finished the round six over with a 78 – one stroke better than her first-round score. Amundson birdied No. 5 and No. 17, but still finished the day with an 80, three more than what she shot Friday.
Senior
Emily Olson is in 25
th after two rounds of play. She shot a 79 Friday and added an 82 to her total Saturday for a two-round score of 161. Junior
Grace Hillemeier and sophomore
Molly Herker round out the Bennies' roster in 33
rd and 43
rd, respectively. Hillemeier took six strokes off her first-round total to finish with an 81 Saturday for a two-round score of 168, and Herker has a 192 after also taking six strokes off her first-round score and shooting a 93 Saturday.
Bethel's Nicole Miller and Carleton's Kristin Miyagi are tied for first with 148s after two rounds of play. Miller shot a field-low 72 Saturday. The Wildcats have five golfers in the top 10, including the third-, fourth- and sixth-place golfers.
The third and final round starts Sunday at 8 a.m. at Emerald Greens in Hastings. Tee times were moved up due to rain and thunderstorms in the forecast Sunday afternoon. The Bennies tee off starting at 8:40 a.m.
