ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team pushed its win streak to four games and its unbeaten streak to nine Saturday afternoon.
Clara Noack scored her first goal of the season and it ended up being all the Bennies needed in a 1-0 win at Macalester in St. Paul. The win – coupled with a Saint Mary's loss – boosts the Bennies into second in the MIAC with just two games left in the regular season. CSB is 8-3-3 overall and 6-1-2 in the league.
It didn't take long for Noack to find the back of the net Saturday – just five minutes and 22 seconds. She had a shot that was wide right,
Roxy Veldman had a shot that was wide left, and then Noack scored at the 5:22 mark off an assist from
Grace Navara to make it 1-0.
The Scots (10-4-2, 4-4-1) put a shot on net – their only on-target shot of the game – at the 16-minute mark, but
Annie Waters made the save to keep Macalester scoreless.
Erica Golenzer had a pair of shots on net in the first half, but both were saved.
Noack added another shot on net early in the second half, and Golenzer notched her third of the game midway through the second half, but Noack's one goal would be all the Bennies needed.
CSB outshot the Scots 17-2, including a 7-1 margin in shots on net. Waters made the Bennies' only save as she and
Paige Kahlmeyer split time in net.
The Bennies have two games remaining in the 2021 regular season. The team is on the road Wednesday, Oct. 27, to take on St. Scholastica in Duluth, and hosts Carleton on Saturday, Oct. 30, in the final game of the regular season. The MIAC Tournament starts with first-round play Monday, Nov. 1.
