ST. CLOUD, Minn. –
Courtney Conlin scored the lone goal Thursday night for the College of Saint Benedict hockey team in a game where ninth-ranked Hamline dominated the entire night. The Pipers put up 51 shots and defeated the Bennies 8-1 at the MAC in St. Cloud.
Sophomore goalie
Maggie Gilchrist stopped a career-high 43 of those shots, but it wasn't enough as Hamline's offense just kept coming and coming. She made 13 saves in the first period and 15 in both the second and third periods.
After a scoreless five minutes to start the game, Hamline (10-3-1, 6-1) scored three goals in just over two minutes, and wrapped up the period with a fourth goal – Bre Simon's third of the period – to make it 4-0 after one. The Pipers scored a single goal in the second, and Conlin scored her second goal of the season on a wraparound behind the net off passes from
Julia Pias and
Annika Brodt.
The Pipers' offense came alive again early in the third, scoring 26 seconds into the period, then adding a pair of power-play goals to wrap up the game.
CSB put 11 shots on net. Pias led the team with three shots and Brodt added two.
The two teams are scheduled to play the second game of the series Friday, Jan. 17, at 3 p.m. in St. Paul. Stay tuned to gobennies.com and CSB athletics on Twitter, @csb_athletics, for schedule updates and changes.
