ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team wrapped up its season series with Hamline with a 5-2 loss to the ninth-ranked Pipers Tuesday afternoon at TRIA Rink in St. Paul. The Tuesday game was a makeup after the weekend snowstorm pushed the game back from its original date Friday.
After giving up eight goals and more than 50 shots on net Thursday in the first game of the MIAC series, the Bennie defense toughened up Tuesday. The team gave up 42 shots on net and blocked 14 shots.
The Pipers (11-3-1, 7-1) scored two goals each in both the first and second periods to go up 4-0. Hamline's first goal came on the power play at the 2:04 mark, and its second was at the 6:33 mark. The Pipers scored again at the 15:05 and 16:15 marks of the second period.
Myka Stave got CSB (7-6-1, 2-6) within 4-1 with her fourth goal of the season just under three minutes into the third period. Her goal came off an assist from
Emily Lemker.
Hamline iced the game with one last goal at the 5:08 mark, and CSB wrapped up scoring for the game with just over 15 seconds left to play when
Mollie Wise scored her sixth goal of the season off assists from
Rylan Bistodeau and
Annika Brodt on the power play.
First-year goalie
Ally Frantzick kept her team in the game with a career-high 37 saves, including 14 in both the first and second periods. Saint Benedict put 15 shots on net, led by three each from Wise and Brodt.
CSB returns to action Friday, Jan. 24, when it hosts Augsburg at 7:30 p.m. at the MAC in St. Cloud.
