Weiss, Koch sweep MIAC weekly honors

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a big weekend in Texas, the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team was rewarded with not one but two MIAC honors Tuesday afternoon.

Junior right side Hunter Weiss earned MIAC Hitter of the Week honors, and junior setter Katie Koch was named the MIAC Setter of the Week. This is the second weekly MIAC honor of both Weiss and Koch's careers, and Weiss is the first CSB hitter to earn more than one weekly honor in a career since Lexi Alm. Alm earned weekly accolades once in 2012 and again in 2013.

Weiss got her junior season off to a fast start, racking up 15 kills and hitting a red-hot .750 in the team's season-opening sweep of Neumann. She had no hitting errors and added three block assists to her stat line. She added nine kills and three more block assists in the team's sweep of Morris – a big regional win – and then came up big against a pair of ranked teams.

In the team's four-set win over No. 15 Mary Hardin-Baylor, Weiss had another 15 kills to go along with two block assists, and she tallied 12 kills and three block assists in a four-set loss to No. 17 Trinity. Weiss is currently second in the MIAC with 3.82 kills per set and first with a .378 hitting percentage.

Koch also had a solid start to her junior year, coming home with 145 assists in four games played. She had at least 30 assists in all four of the team's games, including a season-high 43 against Trinity and 41 against Mary Hardin-Baylor. She also just missed a career-high with 15 digs against Trinity, and also finished the weekend with 17 kills and 31 digs. Koch leads the MIAC with 10.45 assists per set.

Saint Benedict faces another tough test right away as it hits the road Wednesday for a regional contest against UW-Eau Claire. The fourth-ranked Blugolds knocked CSB out of the NCAA Tournament last season, and went 2-1 in their opening weekend of competition, with their only loss coming to third-ranked Juniata.
