CSB soccer hosts Macalester Saturday

09/27/2019

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. After an overtime 2-1 win against Hamline, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team is now 2-0 in MIAC play. The team hopes to keep the streak alive as it hosts Macalester, which is 0-2 so far in MIAC play. Game time is at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept 28.

About the Scots
Macalester is 0-7 so far this season, and the Scots hope to break their winless streak as well as get their first MIAC win on the season. Their conferences losses come from close games against Hamline, 2-1, and a 3-2 loss to St. Olaf. Three of the team's losses have come by a single goal. The Scots' leading goal scorer is Alice Bieda with four goals so far this season and their goal keeper, Kayla Togneri, has a save percentage of .724 and leads the MIAC with 46 saves.

Last Meeting
Last season the Bennies and Scots went head-to-head the whole game, and CSB won 1-0 in overtime. Roxy Veldman scored the game-winner with an assist from Margo Achterkirch. Kayla Togneri had nine saves for the Scots and Kendall Koenen stopped both shots she faced to preserve the shutout.

The Storyline
CSB hopes to not repeat the OT games that happened both last year with the Scots and last week against Hamline, while hopefully gaining another MIAC win. The Scots have faced tough competition so far this year and are hoping to turn their season around with a win this weekend.

Who to Watch
Megan Thompson has 11 goals, including one in last week's OT win, and she has two hat tricks so far in her junior season. Meghan Verkiden also scored last game, marking her first of the season and her career, giving her momentum for this next match up. Koenen has 24 saves and four wins to her name so far this season in net.
