Gilchrist records career-high 40 saves as CSB falls to SCU

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Maggie Gilchrist had a career day in the net Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the College of Saint Benedict hockey team fell to St. Kate's 3-2 in St. Paul.

The Wildcats (5-3, 2-3) scored twice in the first three minutes to take a lead they would never give up, and once in the first minute of the second period to seal the win. Gilchrist made double-digit saves in all three periods, including 15 in the second and third, to keep the Bennies (3-4, 1-4) in the game.

St. Kate's got the game going right away with a goal nine seconds into the game. The Wildcats made it 2-0 at the 2:33 mark when they scored on a power play – the first of two power-play goals for SCU on Saturday.

Rylan Bistodeau got Saint Benedict within one five minutes later when she scored her second goal of the season of an assist from Myka Stave.

The score stayed 2-1 throughout the remainder of the period, and the Wildcats regained a two-goal lead less than a minute into the second when they scored their second power-play goal of the game. CSB got within one again with a power-play goal of its own at the 4:38 mark when Annika Brodt scored off assists from Courtney Conlin and Julia Pias, but that's as close as CSB would get.

The Wildcats outshot CSB 15-3 in the third, and Gilchrist stopped all 15 shots to give her team a chance to tie the game. Saint Benedict pulled Gilchrist in the final minute to give the team the one-skater advantage, but the team was unable to score.

CSB finished with 23 shots on net to St. Kate's 43. Riley Schneider and Pias each had five shots on net and Stave and Brodt finished with three.

The Bennies and the Wildcats are back in action Sunday, Dec. 8, when they play at 2 p.m. at the MAC in St. Cloud.
