CSB volleyball looks to end regular season on a high note

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a loss to St. Thomas Wednesday, Saint Benedict is playing for seeding Saturday when it wraps up the regular season against Concordia. CSB could finish anywhere from third to fifth, and is looking for a win to help secure at least one more game in Claire Lynch in the MIAC Tournament.

Game time for Saturday's regular-season finale is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Claire Lynch.

ABOUT THE COBBERS

Concordia's two-match winning streak was snapped Wednesday when the team lost 3-1 to Bethel. The Cobbers picked up big MIAC wins against St. Kate's early in the year and Gustavus last weekend. Kendra Wiggs is one of the league's best blockers, and is third in the conference with 100 total blocks this season. She also leads the team with 184 kills, and is one of four players with 160 or more kills.

LAST MEETING

Saint Benedict already beat the Cobbers once this season, a 3-0 sweep in nonconference play during CSB's home tournament in September. Concordia kept things close, including 25-23 in the third set, but CSB was able to hold on for the win. Hunter Weiss had 15 kills, Gabby Heying added 14 and Katie Koch finished with 45 assists. CSB is 9-1 against the Cobbers since 2012.

THE STORYLINE

The Cobbers are out of playoff contention, but looking for another big win to wrap up 2019. CSB is in the playoffs, now it's just who the team will play and where. A win over Concordia would secure home-court advantage for the first round of next week's MIAC Tournament.

WHO TO WATCH:

Junior Morgan Holthaus had a career-high 16 digs Wednesday at St. Thomas, and she tied her career-high with eight kills last weekend against the Gusties. As a team, CSB has had 13 or more total blocks in each of the last two matches, including a season-high 14 Saturday against Gustavus.
