CSB looks to start new win streak at home Wednesday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a tough weekend on the road, the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team looks to start a new win streak and regain some momentum. The Bennies return home to host Hamline at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in Claire Lynch Hall.
 
About the Pipers
Hamline is coming into Wednesday on a three-game losing streak, and the Pipers are hoping to turn things around. They are 11-8 overall this season and 2-3 in the MIAC. Their losses in the conference come from Bethel, Gustavus and Augsburg. Madison Hurrle has been playing well for the Pipers with 210 kills on the season, an average of 3.4 per set. Maggie Gavic is also someone to watch on Wednesday with 311 digs and 61 assists.
 
Last Meeting
Last time these two teams faced off CSB won in three sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-20). Overall against Hamline, CSB has 21 wins and three losses. Both Madison Weiss and Hunter Weiss had solid games against the Pipers last season, finishing the match with 13 kills each as well as both hitting better than .500.
 
The Storyline
CSB came in at No. 12 in the latest AVCA DIII poll, and is in a tie for third in the MIAC rankings. With two tough conference loses this past weekend, CSB hopes to restart its winning streak going into the end of the season. The Pipers are 2-3 in conference play and CSB is 4-2, both teams looking for a win with only five games until tournament play. With the strong record against Hamline in the past, CSB hopes to gain another home win this season.
 
Who to Watch
Gabby Heying led the team with 14 kills against St. Olaf this weekend, and she has 193 on the season. Katie Koch hit a milestone in her career as well this weekend with 2,000 assists, she has 769 so far this season. The Weiss sisters also played well this weekend and are leading the team in both kills and blocks.
