Two wins in Iowa push CSB's weekly record to 4-0

DECORAH, Iowa – A pair of wins Saturday afternoon in Iowa helped the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team wrap up another long week with a perfect 4-0 record.

After a pair of MIAC wins to start the week Wednesday and Friday, CSB traveled to Decorah, Iowa, where it beat region rivals Loras 3-1 and Luther College 3-0. Saint Benedict is now 13-4 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC, and heads into a new week on a six-match winning streak.

In the first game of the day Saturday, CSB defeated the Duhawks 25-22, 25-23, 20-25 and 25-15. Kills from Claire Westby and Hunter Weiss helped CSB pull away for the tight win and set one, and Madison Weiss and Hunter both had a kill for the two-point win in set two. After falling in set three, the team used several short runs to jump ahead and pull away for the win in set four.

Hunter Weiss had 15 kills to lead CSB and Madison Wess added 10. Lauren Mathews finished with nine kills. Katie Koch had 38 assists and Haley LaValle led the defense with 18 digs. Allison Roehl (15), Koch (13) and Liz Schultz (11) also had double-digit digs.

After four close sets against Loras, CSB took on host-school Luther and won 25-13, 25-17 and 25-20. The Norse took a 14-10 lead in set three, but kills from Hunter Weiss and Westby were part of a four-point CSB run to take a 19-18 lead, and Schultz and Madison Weiss had late kills to seal the win.

Hunter finished the Luther match with 15 kills and Mathews added 12. Schultz added seven kills and 10 digs. Koch added 37 assists to her weekend total, and LaValle finished the match with 14 digs.
