ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team made quick work of Carleton Wednesday night to improve to 5-0 in MIAC play. CSB swept the Knights 3-0, winning by scores of 25-8, 25-6 and 25-22.
Saint Benedict is now 15-5 overall and 5-0 in the MIAC. This marks the team's best conference start since 2015 when it also started the year 5-0. The Knights are now 10-5 overall and 1-4 in the league.
The first two sets were all CSB as the Knights struggled to get their offense going. Saint Benedict hit .571 with 12 kills on no errors in the first set, and .480 with 13 kills and just one error in the second set. The team finished the match hitting .386 to Carleton's .108.
The Knights rallied in the third set and kept things close throughout. A pair of kills from
Madison Weiss late in the set made it 24-21, and a kill by
Liz Schultz ended the set and the match.
Hunter Weiss finished with 11 kills to lead CSB and Schultz and
Madison Weiss each added eight.
Katie Koch had 36 assists and Schultz also led the defense with 15 digs.
Haley LaValle added 10 digs and
Madison Weiss finished with seven total blocks and
Hunter Weiss added six.
Abby Loe paced Carleton with 10 kills, Inger Shelton had 14 assists and Tegan Carlson had a team-high six digs.
Saint Benedict is on the road Friday, Oct. 5, when it heads to Arden Hills for a key MIAC matchup against Bethel. CSB only has two home games remaining in the regular season. The team hosts Augsburg Wednesday, Oct. 10, then hosts Macalester Wednesday, Oct. 24.
