ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team got back in the 'W' column Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout of Bethel University.
Jenna Kleason and
Sydney Sherek each scored once for CSB, which picked up its second MIAC win of the year Saturday in Arden Hills.
CSB (6-2-1, 2-2-1) had a few opportunities to score early, but
Kelsey Tatarek had a shot that was saved and
Jane Koch put up a shot that was blocked. Sherek got her team on the board in the 36
th minute when she scored her second goal of the season, this one off an assist from
Samantha Schorzmann.
Schorzmann had a shot of her own a few minutes later but it went high, and CSB went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Saint Benedict didn't wait long after the break to get on the board again. Kleason scored her third goal of the year in the 47
th minute of the game to make it 2-0.
Koch had another shot on net just over a minute later, and two more shots that went wide.
CSB finished the game with 14 shots to Bethel's six, including a 7-3 margin in shots on goal. The Royals are now 4-5-1 overall and 1-4 in the MIAC.
Kendall Koenen stopped all three shots she faced, including one in the final 10 minutes of play to preserve the shutout.
CSB returns home for its homecoming match Friday, Oct. 6, when it hosts Saint Mary's at 3:30 p.m. at its new turf field on College Avenue.
