ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The connection between senior
Sydney Bramer and junior
Jane Koch powered the College of Saint Benedict soccer team to a dominate 4-1 win over Saint Mary's Friday afternoon.
CSB (7-2-1, 3-2-1) struggled to find their groove in the first 10 minutes of play, but quickly recovered and got into a groove against the Cardinals.
The first goal of the game went to Bramer, who picked up her second of the season off a beautiful pass from Koch. Koch's dish found Bramer all alone in the box, and she was easily able to put the Blazers up 1-0 in the 30
th minute of the game.
Koch extended CSB's lead to 2-0 when a long pass found her in perfect position to beat Saint Mary's keeper in the 41
st minute. Sophomore
Mara Flaherty picked up the scoring early in the second half, when she converted a drop pass from first year
Megan Thompson to put CSB up 3-0.
The Cardinals got on the board in the 64
th minute when a shot from Emily Loof slipped past CSB's sophomore goalkeeper
Kendall Koenen.
CSB added one more goal before all was said and done when Koch again found Bramer, this time off a placed kick following a SMU foul. Koch arched the ball perfectly into the box, where Bramer converted with her head, to put CSB up 4-1 with just 62 seconds remaining in the game.
CSB dominated in the stat column as well, outshooting the Cardinals 20-4, including a 13-2 margin on goal. Koenen had three saves in the game, while
Maggie Tolley saw no shots in her 22 minutes in goal.
CSB returns to the road Oct. 10 and Oct. 14 when they travel to St. Catherine and Gustavus Adolphus, respectively.
