ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team wrapped up its 2017 home season Saturday with a 9-0 loss to Saint Mary's.
With two matches left in the regular season, CSB is 9-12 overall and in ninth in the MIAC with a 2-6 conference record. The top six teams in the league make the postseason tournament.
SMU (11-6, 5-5), which is in sixth in the MIAC, started the day with a sweep of doubles play.
Tessa Rahrick and
Ellen Stensrud fell 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and
Erin Kolbow and
Kylie Miller lost 8-6 at No. 2 doubles in the closest doubles match of the day.
Gabbie Noack and
Lauren Clark fell 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Both Kolbow and Clark's matches went to tiebreakers in singles play. At No. 2 singles, Kolbow won her first set 6-4, but lost the next two and fell 4-6, 6-1, 10-7. Clark won her first set at No. 4 singles, but ultimately lost 1-6, 6-3, 13-11.
Rahrick fell 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and Stensrud lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Noack fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Miller lost 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
CSB returns to action Sunday, April 23, when it travels to St. Peter to take on Gustavus, which is second in the MIAC at 5-1. Saint Benedict wraps up 2018 Saturday, April 29, when it takes on Hamline in St. Paul.
