ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team won three matches but dropped a nonconference contest 6-3 to Northwestern Tuesday afternoon in St. Paul, Minn.
The loss is the fourth straight for CSB, which is now 9-11 overall. Tuesday's match marked the last nonconference contest of the season for Saint Benedict, which has just three games left on its 2016-17 regular-season schedule.
Northwestern (16-4) won the first two doubles matches, but CSB picked up a win at No. 3 doubles to gain some momentum heading into singles play.
Tessa Rahrick and
Ellen Stensrud fell 8-1 at No. 1 doubles and
Erin Kolbow and
Kylie Miller lost 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, but
Gabbie Noack and
Lauren Clark picked up an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Rahrick fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, but both Kolbow and Stensrud picked up singles wins for CSB. Kolbow won 6-4, 7-6 at No. 2 singles and Stensrud won in a tiebreaker 3-6, 7-5, 10-5 at No. 3 singles, but the Eagles won at No. 4-6 singles to earn the win.
Clark fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, Noack lost 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and
Ashley Kraemer lost by the same score at No. 6 singles.
Saint Benedict is off now until Saturday, April 22, when it hosts Saint Mary's in its final home match of 2016-17. That match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
