SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team won three straight tie breakers in singles play to hold on for a 6-3 win over Northwestern (Iowa) Friday night in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The win marks the sixth of the season for CSB – which is 6-3 overall – and matches the team's win total from the 2015-16 season.
Saint Benedict started Friday with a pair of doubles wins to go up 2-1 on the Red Raiders (2-2).
Laura Finn and
Ellen Stensrud teamed up to win 9-7 at No. 1 doubles and
Lauren Clark and
Gabbie Noack picked up an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Erin Kolbow and
Taylor Kraemer fell 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
Northwestern won at No. 1 and 2 singles to take a 3-2 lead, but CSB won the next four matches to come back and hold on for the win. Stensrud started CSB with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, and from there the final three matches needed tie breakers. Kraemer won 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 at No. 4 singles, Clark won 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 at No. 5 singles and Noack held on for the closest win of the day, 7-5, 7-6(7-5) at No. 6 singles.
CSB is back in action at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, when it takes on Concordia (Neb.) in Seward, Neb.
