ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team continues the MIAC season this Saturday, Jan. 28, when it hosts third-ranked University of St. Thomas University in Claire Lynch Hall. Game time is set for 3 p.m. as CSB looks to stay undefeated on their home court and hand the Tommies their first loss of the season.
About St. Thomas
St. Thomas is 17-0 overall and 11-0 in the MIAC and is ranked third in the country heading into Saturday's game. The Tommies' latest game was a 71-48 win against Macalester Wednesday night. Kaitlin Langer leads the MIAC with 18.9 points per game is the MIAC's fifth-leading rebounder with 8.5 per game. The Tommies also have three of the league's top three-point shooters: Lucia Renikoff (46.5), Gabby Zehrer (46.4), and Lauren Fischer (44.4) are all a threat from deep.
Last Matchup
CSB and St. Thomas faced off once already this season, and the Blazers lost the matchup 79-35 on Dec. 10 in St. Paul. CSB struggled shooting while the Tommies seemingly could not miss. The Blazer were out rebounded 40-24, and allowed 26 points off turnovers. The Blazers never led in the game and could not recover from the Tommies' early lead.

Chelsey Guetter leads the team with 9.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and Fokken averages 9.9 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game. Fokken is second in the MIAC with 30 blocks this season. Saint Benedict heads into Saturday's game after a 50-47 road win at St. Catherine on Wednesday. Fokken and
Kate Banovetz both had 17 points in the win. CSB is currently alone in fourth in the MIAC with seven games left in the regular season.
The Storyline
CSB is undefeated at home this season, and look to improve to 10-0 at home. CSB, which got off to a hot start to the 2016-17 season, also looks to stay near the top of the conference and knock the Tommies down a column in the MIAC standings. The Blazer defense, with 54.7 points allowed, looks to slow down St. Thomas' high-scoring offense with 75.5 points per game, which they struggled to do earlier this season. Looking ahead, CSB will be at home again for a conference game Wednesday, Feb. 1, when hosting the St. Olaf College at 7 p.m.
