STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday on its first day of the UW-Stevens Point Tournament in Stevens Point, Wis.
Saint Benedict (3-3) started the day with a 3-1 loss to No. 15 Stevens Point, but came back a short time later and swept Bethany Lutheran 3-0.
CSB won 25-19, 25-8 and 25-19 against Bethany Lutheran.
Liz Schultz led the team with 14 kills and
Meghan Koop finished with seven.
Megan Pekarek had 25 assists and
Haley LaValle led the defense with 20 digs.
In its first game of the day, CSB came up against a ranked team for the third time in the last five games. After upsetting No. 4 Emory in Atlanta a week ago, Saint Benedict was hoping for another upset on Stevens Point's home court, but the Pointers had other ideas.
UWSP won the first set 25-19, but a kill from Schultz gave CSB the 25-23 win in set two to even things up at 1-1. From there Stevens Point took control, however, winning sets three and four 25-16 and 25-15, respectively.
Schultz, who set a new career high last weekend, did it again against the Pointers, finishing with a team-high 18 kills.
Briana Schmiesing also finished with seven kills. Pekarek had 36 assists and Koop and LaValle each had 21 digs.
Melissa Koop also finished with 17 digs for CSB.
Saint Benedict is back in action Saturday, Sept. 10, for two more games in Wisconsin. CSB takes on Aurora at 10 a.m. and No. 12 Bethel at 2 p.m. in a nonconference matchup.
