CSB tennis ends fall season with split in Wisconsin

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team wrapped up its fall season with a split in a pair of nonconference matches Saturday afternoon in Menomonie, Wis.
 
CSB started the day with a 9-0 loss to UW-Eau Claire, but Saint Benedict bounced back to defeat UW-Stout 6-3 to end its fall season 2-2 overall.
 
"Today was another good day for us," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We came out a little shy against Eau Claire, but the women did a great job fixing that against Stout, which was awesome to see. At this point in the season there are always a lot of things to work on, but we have so many positives to focus on in preparation for the spring season."
 
Saint Benedict swept doubles play to start its match against Stout. Laura Finn and Tessa Rahrick teamed up to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Taylor Kraemer and Erin Kolbow won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Ellen Stensrud and Ashley Kraemer completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
 
Finn picked up her third singles win of the year at No. 1 singles against UW-Stout, winning 6-0, 6-2. Rahrick won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Stensrud picked up CSB's third and final singles win 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 at No. 5 singles. Kolbow fell 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 singles, Taylor Kraemer lost in super sets 7-6(7-3), 7-6(7-1) at No. 4 singles and Megan Hintz lost 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
 
Finn and Rahrick fell 8-3 at No. 1 doubles against the Blugolds, and Taylor Kraemer and Hintz lost 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Stensrud and Ashley Kraemer fell 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
 
Finn fell 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and Rahrick lost 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles against Eau Claire. Kolbow took her match to extra sets at No. 3 singles, but fell 4-6, 7-5, 10-3. Stensrud lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, Taylor Kraemer fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Ashley Kraemer lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
 
CSB returns to action in spring 2017 when it plays the entirety of its MIAC schedule.
