Live Stats and Video
ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After going 2-2 in the Stevens Point Tournament last week, the CSB volleyball team is set to start up MIAC play. CSB, which took on a pair of top-15 teams at the tournament, faces an evenly matched Tommies team at home Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
About the Tommies
St. Thomas is 4-4 heading into Wednesday's matchup. Fifth-best in the MIAC is Taylor Lewis with 103 kills, Abby Louwagie leads the team with 186 assists, and Ellie Meyer has recorded a team-high 159 digs. Whitney Lloyd is second in the MIAC in both block assists and total blocks. The Tommies went 2-2 at the Augsburg Tournament last weekend, and swept No. 25 UW-Oshkosh 3-0 Sept. 3 in Atlanta.
Last Meeting
Last year, CSB beat St. Thomas for the first time since 2009. Saint Benedict beat the Tommies 3-1 in St. Paul, Minn., thanks in part to nine kills from
Lauren Mathews and eight from
Meghan Koop.
Megan Pekarek had 36 assists and Koop also had 17 digs in that match.
Who to Watch
Megan Pekarek leads the Blazers with 264 assists and is tied for second-most assists in the MIAC. Pekarek also leads the MIAC with 9.10 assists per set.
Liz Schultz (90 kills) and
Briana Schmiesing (80 kills) lead the Blazers on attack. First year
Haley LaValle leads the team with 127 digs.
The Storyline
CSB went 2-2 last weekend, and Saint Benedict looks to get off on the right foot against a conference rival in the start of MIAC play. The Blazers open their home season against a Tommies team that they handily beat 3-1 in St. Paul last year. Wednesday's game is one of just six home games scheduled for CSB this season, so the Blazers look to take advantage of being on their home court while they can.
