ResultsST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team picked up its third MIAC win of the year Sunday afternoon when it defeated Macalester 8-1 in St. Paul.
The Blazers (6-7, 3-3) started the day with a sweep in doubles play, and then won five of six singles matches to complete the win.
Laura Finn and
Rachel Raden started the day with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles for CSB.
Victoria Beach and
Cassy Finn followed suite at No. 2 doubles with another 8-4 win, and
Taylor Kraemer and
Ellen Stensrud won by the same score at No. 3 doubles.
Laura Finn started singles play with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Beach lost the first set 6-4 at No. 2 singles, but won the second set 6-1. She was down 5-0 in the tie breaker, but won seven straight points and came back to win the tie breaker 10-7 to earn the match point.
Macalester won at No. 3 singles, but Kraemer got CSB going again with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
Megan Hintz lost her first set 6-3 at No. 5 singles, and was down 5-2 in the second set but came back to win 7-6, then won the tie breaker 7-2. She won the match thanks to a 10-3 win in the tiebreaker. Stensrud wrapped up the day with a 7-6, 6-2, hard-fought win at No. 6 singles.
CSB returns home for three straight matches starting Saturday, April 16, when it hosts Minnesota-Morris at 1 p.m. at the CSB tennis courts. The Blazers host Carleton on April 17 and Gustavus on April 23.
