ResultsSPRING LAKE PARK, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team got wins from its seniors in a lsos to Northwestern Saturday afternoon in the Blazers' first match of the 2016 spring season.
Victoria Beach and
Rachel Raden won their singles matches and teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles in the Blazers' 6-3 loss to the Eagles at Public Indoor Tennis in Spring Lake Park, Minn. CSB is now 1-3 overall in 2015-16.
Northwestern (2-0) picked up two doubles wins to start the match, but Beach and Raden teamed up to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Laura Finn and
Cassy Finn fell 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and
Megan Hintz and
Taylor Kraemer lost 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Laura Finn fell 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, but Beach and Raden won their matches to make it 3-3. Beach won the No. 2 singles competition 6-2, 6-2 against Jessica Henke, and Raden won 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 against Tina Matetich at No. 3 singles.
Kraemer fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to put the Eagles up 4-3, and the deciding match was No. 5 singles, where
Cassy Finn fell 6-4, 4-6 (14-12) in a hard-fought match to Brooke Lapinski. Hintz lost 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
The Blazers are back in action Saturday, Feb. 13, when they play a pair of matches in Winona. CSB takes on host-school Saint Mary's in its first MIAC match of the year, and also plays a nonconference, neutral match against Martin Luther. Saint Benedict plays at home for the first time this season Saturday, Feb. 14, when they host Concordia.
