MLC ResultsWINONA, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon in Winona, Minn. The Blazers lost their first MIAC match of the year 5-4 to Saint Mary's, but wrapped up the day with a 9-0 sweep of Martin Luther – CSB's first win of the spring.
Saturday's win against Martin Luther marked the first varsity singles win of
Emily Erickson and
Kylie Miller's collegiate careers. Erickson won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles against MLC and Miller defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
To start the match against Martin Luther, Saint Benedict (2-4) went 3-0 in doubles play.
Rachel Raden and
Laura Finn teamed up to win 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, and
Victoria Beach and
Cassy Finn won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Megan Hintz and
Taylor Kraemer completed the sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Laura Finn started singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for CSB, and Kraemer won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. Hintz picked up her first singles win of the spring 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, and Stensrud won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
The Blazers went 2-1 in doubles play to take a lead on the Cardinals heading into the singles matches, but SMU won a super tie breaker at No. 4 singles to help come away with a the MIAC win. Raden and Beach teamed up to win 8-5 at No. 2 doubles against the Cardinals and Hintz and Stensrud won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. Laura and
Cassy Finn fell 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Laura Finn fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, but Beach stayed perfect this spring with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-7 win at No. 2 singles to put CSB up 3-2. The Cardinals tied the score 3-3 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Raden at No. 3 singles, and Julia Boeve beat Kramer 6-0, 1-6, 10-5 in a super tiebreaker at No. 4 singles to give the Cardinals the edge in the match.
Cassy Finn fell 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 singles and Hintz wrapped up the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
The Blazers return to action and are home for the first time this season Sunday, Feb. 14, when they host Concordia at 9 a.m. at Fitness Evolution in Sartell.
