ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team takes a break from MIAC action this weekend for a nonconference game. The team wraps up its 2016 schedule Friday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. when it travels to Mequon, Wis., to take on Concordia-Wisconsin.
About the Falcons
Concordia is 3-4-2 overall heading into this weekend's nonconference matchup. The last time the Falcons played, they lost 1-0 to St. Norbert on Dec. 3. Earlier this season, Concordia lost to fifth-ranked Adrian 6-1. Kristen Kennedy leads the team with seven goals and nine points, and Veronika Metanova has seven assists and nine points. Christina Pattengale leads the Falcons in net with 166 saves.
Last Year
Saint Benedict lost to the Falcons one night, then beat them the next last season on Dec. 11-12 in St. Cloud. The Blazers lost Friday's game 3-2 and won Saturday's game 3-2 in OT.
Allison Kirk scored on a power play in OT in the Blazers' win over the Falcons.
Elli Marvin and
Brigette Miller both scored in Friday's loss, and
Kacee Medved and
Maddie Dockry added goals in the win the next day.
Who to Watch
Allison Kirk, Marvin and Dockry all scored for CSB in its UW-Eau Claire loss on Monday. Goalie
Amy Jost had 30 saves on Monday and
Julia Carle leads the team with 155 saves through six appearances. Senior forward
Elli Marvin currently leads the MIAC with 13 points, and is still fifth in all of Division III with an average of 1.00 goals per game.
The Storyline
After winning two games to start the season and scoring 22 goals in its first four games, CSB's offense has slowed down. The team, which is on a six-game losing streak since Nov. 11, looks to snap out of that slump this weekend against the Falcons. A win tonight would be a good momentum boost for the team as it heads into the holiday break before getting back into MIAC play in 2017.
