EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team scored three straight goals and took a lead midway through its nonconference matchup with UW-Eau Claire Monday night, but the Blugold scored three unanswered goals in the third period to pull away for the 5-3 win in Eau Claire, Wis.
The Monday night road trip, which put CSB's overall record at 2-6, was the first of two trips to Wisconsin this week as Saint Benedict plays Concordia-Wisconsin in a pair of games this weekend in Mequon, Wis.
UWEC (7-4) scored two goals in the first four minutes of the game to go up 2-0, but CSB added a pair of goals late in the period to tie the score.
Maddie Dockry got CSB on the board with her second goal of the season in the 18
th minute off assists from
Mollie Wise and
Brigette Miller, and
Elli Marvin tied things up with 10 seconds left in the first. Her eighth goal of the year came at 19:50 off an assist from
Stephanie Kirk.
Saint Benedict took the lead in the 13
th minute of the second period when
Allison Kirk scored her second goal in the last three games to put CSB up 3-2. Her goal was assisted by
Kylie Eklund and
Stephanie Kirk.
CSB held its lead through the remainder of the second, but it was short lived in the third period. Eau Claire tied the game 24 seconds into the final period, and scored again in the 10
th minute and added one more goal in the 13
th minute to seal the win.
The Blugolds outshot CSB 35-13, and first year goalie
Amy Jost made 30 saves for Saint Benedict in her second game in the net.
CSB returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, against Concordia and then again at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.
