ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team fell 3-1 to Hamline Saturday afternoon in a MIAC game in St. Paul, Minn.
CSB is now 8-5-2 overall and 4-4-1 and in a three-way tie for fifth in the MIAC. Saint Benedict is tied with Hamline (10-5-1, 4-4-1) and St. Kate's with two games left in the regular season. The top six teams make the conference tournament, which starts Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Saturday's game was scoreless at halftime thanks in large part to CSB goalie
Heather Kaluzniak, who had three first-half saves. The Pipers got on the board early in the second half when Kaley Roberts scored in the 47
th minute to break open the scoreless tie.
Roberts scored again 10 minutes later in the 57
th minute to make it 2-0, but less than a minute later Saint Benedict made it a one-goal game when
Jane Koch scored off an assist from
Jessica Trossen.
Hamline maintained a one-goal lead until the 75
th minute when it scored on a penalty kick to help seal the win.
The Pipers held a 10-9 edge in shots, including a 7-5 margin in shots on goal. Kaluzniak finished with four saves for CSB.
CSB is back at home one last time in 2016 when it hosts Macalester at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26. Saint Benedict ends the regular season Saturday, Oct. 29, at St. Olaf.
