MIAC Standings

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Taylor Hedin added two goals to her season total Wednesday afternoon to help the College of Saint Benedict soccer team pick up a key 3-1 win over Macalester in on its home field in St. Joseph.

The win pushes CSB's record to 9-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the MIAC, and leaves them tied for fifth in the conference standings with one game left in the regular season. St. Thomas clinched the regular-season title and the Tommies, along with Augsburg, Bethel and Gustavus have all secured spots in the postseason tournament.

CSB is tied for fifth with St. Kate's and vying for one of the last two spots in the tournament. Both CSB and the Wildcats are 5-4-1 in league play and have 16 points. CSB would hold the tiebreaker over St. Kate's thanks to its 3-1 win over the Wildcats earlier this season.

Hedin, who now has 12 goals in her senior season, scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute when she took a pass from Jane Koch on the right side of the net, drew the Scots' keeper out and shot it past her. Macalester (9-4-3, 4-4-2) tied the game in the 22nd minute, but CSB took the lead for good in the 37th minute when Hedin scored again, this time on a pass from Ali Ryan-Mosley.

Saint Benedict added a third goal for insurance in the 56th minute when Jenna Kleason scored her third goal of the season off a corner kick by Olivia Musser.

Macalester had 11 total shots to CSB's eight and outshot Saint Benedict 8-6, but senior goalie Heather Kaluzniak made seven saves to help keep the Scots off the board more than once.

CSB wraps up its regular season Saturday, Oct. 29, when it travels to Northfield to take on St. Olaf at 1 p.m. Saint Benedict looks to end the regular season with a win to help stay in the top six in the league and secure its spot in the league's postseason tournament. The first round of the MIAC playoffs are Tuesday, Nov. 1.
